    Default Being An Usher

I was just asked this weekend to be an usher at my cousin's wedding tonight. Do ushers have to wear a black suit? I have a nice suit I was hoping to wear tonight but it's not black

It depends on how formal the wedding is whether the ushers need to be dressed similarly. In general, if you're not told, you should be safe to wear what you've got.

In your case, I think that if you're asked only a few days in advance to be an usher, your cousin better not complain about what you wear.

I think Usher's normally wear the same colours of the Wedding Party, but in short notice I don't know if that's a possibility. I think you should be fine to wear your suit, but maybe get a boutonniere (sp?) that matches the groomsmen, so the guests know you're there to seat them, and not just another guest...?

i ushered a wedding a few years ago. they asked me to wear a tie to match the groomsmen, a suit and then that day they gave me a boutonniere.

    Some definite positives:
    - ladies love the guy helping old ladies to their seat
    - open bar for being part of the wedding... good ole flower

I'm getting married today *gulp* and we've told our users to wear a suit, but we aren't telling them they have to wear a certain color. Our wedding is moderately formal.

The groom or the bride should be telling you what the dress code is...they're the ones usually putting it together.

Yeah if they didn't tell you specifically I don't see how they can expect you to correctly guess the color scheme..

I was one of these Ushers, I think as long as you look presentable, you are fine. I have been an usher a couple of times and never have I been asked to wear a certain color.

    Dave, enjoy the honeymoon.
