I took a stroll down to Ground Zero yesterday, after my meeting in the Financial District, and heard some interesting comments. The common sentiment was that it was indeed a tragedy, but look how many more the Americans have killed so far including their own. And No, this was not from "turban-heads", these were Europeans (whites) comments.

IMO, saying that "We Will Never Forget" sends the wrong message that Americans will continue hating on the "bad guys" till the end of time, vs saying that they will remember the true heroics of those who lost their lives trying to save others.

One lady was putting up a picture of her late brother who was with NYPD at the time. An older couple was making small talk with her. Asked her how she felt about the annual remembrance events in honor of her brother. The lady's reply was that she was Very proud of her brother and the sacrifice he made, but now Americans have killed a 100 people in retaliation. This just meant that there are a 100 sisters on the other side of the world mourning just like her.

That's a bit jackass, especially for you.

I posted this thread because I knew it would draw out everyone bitching about Iraq, Afghanistan etc.. Unreal. Some of you make it sound like they deserved it.

I knew it might come off that way, but there are a bunch of people who posted threads like these on 'other' forums without the idea of baiting people as you did - and I just don't understand the need to make a thread yearly about it.

10 year anniversary doesn't bother me - but yearly wears a bit thin.

    Thanks! Read my mind.

As does your birthday, or anniversary of a loved ones death, si? I think you were appealing more to what you believe is popular, rather than what you really feel. If Iraq didn't happy shortly after, I doubt people would be so callous about this.

Not even slightly. I think it's pretty evident that my opinion is not necessarily the 'popular' opinion. And who the hell commemorates the death of a loved one yearly? Maybe the first year after, but come on.

Nothing like commemorating a tragedy with a bit of trolling.

Hardly, but I'm not surprised at your post - the only thing that's sad is your ability to take a statement in the context in which it is delivered - what are you, a politician? I'm not saying to forget. I just don't think a yearly commemoration is necessary.

You think it's sad that I don't, but I think it's sad you have to make a conscious effort to do so. I prefer to let the memories come as they may, instead of having to dedicate a day to it.

I can't believe all the ignorant people.

The building was demolished professionally. Any person can figure it out if you study other buildings and put a little time into it.

If you don't think it's necessary, great, just don't look down on people who do.
You don't think you took the original remark out of context? Are you just incredibly dense then? I'm seriously asking, it would make explaining things to you a lot easier.

All I said was I don't understand the necessity of posting about it every year.

You, on the other hand, have looked down on me for my opinion. Apparently I'm 'sad' because I don't light candles for deceased relatives. Hypocrite. I'm not spiritual, a candle is a light source / lackluster heat source as far as I'm concerned. It serves no purpose otherwise.

I too post on the internet - for hours on end - to convey to strangers how I should be a person of interest to them.
