Well they admitted what we all knew. The only way they are going to make believers is to change their business structure & start building better vehicles.
Or they said it to suck up to the government so they could get money, knowing full well that their cars aren't as bad as everyone seems to think they are.
It's just a marketing ploy.

Well, the public and government is not totally keen on the bailout unless they can show that the companies will be profitable and viable. If not, the bailout money goes back before the company goes bankrupt.
I believe an announcement like this is a way for GM to say: Hey look... this is one of the reasons we have not been profitable. If we change our product mix and make better cars, we will be.
I don't think their plan is viable anyway. They're going to stop making big trucks and SUVs and concentrate on smaller more fuel efficient cars.
But the trucks and SUVs are all they have going for them - in the public eye, those are their flagship vehicles that have credibility because they pioneered them. It's just the same way the public perceives the Japanese manufacturers to make small, efficient, reliable cars.
^ Unfortunately the big 3 have to make smaller cars because of the new CAFE regulations.
They should only be making muscle and trucks, because they're the only ones who can.

The Camaro project was probably the biggest waste of money ever. It's still not out and GM is going through all of this as we speak.
Looking for a new VW? How about a used vehicle? We are Central Albertas #1 source for pre-owned vehicles
I will beat any deal on a new VW for beyonders

^ The Camaro should be out in Spring. Chevy's already pre-sold tons of them and reviews have been nothing but positive.
The volt on the other hand

Of course theyre pre-sold it's a new model but what happens a year from now when all the hype dies off? Even that stupid SSR truck was presold when it was released. Now youd be lucky to give one away.Originally posted by Eleanor

The Camaro should have been out 5 years ago. US auto manufacturers are always way behind the trends.
I agree the Camaro should have been out. It also may not make GM all that much money, and has probably cost a lot in overruns for this delay.
However, save for the Corvette, this will be the only true exciting car in the Chevy lineup, and should help their overall appeal if nothing else.
I would have bought one of a few GM products long ago (Silverado, CTS, even Cobalt SS when they first came out) except that their prices were extra-ordinary.
my father in law bought a DTS Caddy for +$75,000 and now they are close to $60,000. Talk about screwing over the fan base, but I guess lower prices are better than higher.
Cos...
The Camaro is different though, because it has prestige and history behind it. And gas is cheap againOriginally posted by Redlyne_mr2

And as for behind the trends, I'm pretty sure they were first on the ball for the SUV trend, they just stuck with it too long.

Exactly, the Camaro should have been out in 2003 to compete with the Mustang retro-revival.
The big 3 will always have their fanboys
I can't believe how much those thunderbird were going for back in the day. They looked like they barely improved the orginal one. LOL I feel bad for someone that paid 10K us over MRSP for one, when you can get one for pretty cheap now a days.
I think the Camaro will be successful, but I will not understand why, isn't the thing basically a GTO in a new wrapper?
Except they actually tried to make the car better than the one it was based on, rather than exactly the same.Originally posted by QuasarCav

Barring engine, transmission, suspension, chassis and body, yeah, they're the sameOriginally posted by sneek

LOL @ Eleanor defending the Big 3 to all of beyond
^ I'm just getting sick of the blatant import humping that goes around on this forum. The big 3 make decent cars (GM in particular), the thing hurting them is more image than actual product.
And I like to argue
