    Default Visa with best benefits?

I thought I'd get something out of my spending and wanted to ask what credit cars has the best benefits/per annual fee
I spend about 10k/year on purchases that I think I can some sort of benefit from

I currently use scotia moneyback which sucks balls (1%, annual)

Thought of getting CIBC aero classic (2 aero points per $1 spent), however this can't be used on westjet and even 10k aero plan miles = one way trip to vancouver............

    Any suggestions ?

The TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card gives you the equivalent 1.5% on all purchases and then 4.5% on purchases made towards travel. You can also spend your earned points on any airline (and hotels and car rentals).

The Royal Bank Visa Infinite Avion might be slightly better... I'm not exactly sure how their point scheme works... but I thought it was in the equivalent range of about 1.5-2% as well.

I have to admit I am a fan of the TD first class travel or platinum visa. as said before you get 3 points for every $1 spent, which equates to 1.5% back if you use the TD travel program you can basically triple the value of your points. their travel website is very similar to expedia. or you can book on your own and request a redemption.

I had a problem booking an exotic car rental through them since I am only 21 so i booked it on my own, then called then and said I would like to see this purchase dissapear from my statement. low and behold my next statement it showed the purchase and credit for the car rental... easy as that. In one year using it as a company credit card I had 2 weeks hotel flight for 2 and car rental paid for by my visa purchases most of which were reimbirsed by the company I contracted for.

+1 for the TD Travel series. I had the basic one, which was nice and all, but then I realized everything I buy goes on it, so I upgraded. Haven't used the points yet but I've got like 54 000 lol, all within a year and change.

Look at Scotia Momentum, 2% cashback for gas/groceries/drug store purchases and 1% for the rest with only $39 annual fee. For the amount of driving most people on this site do you'll make your money back for the fee in 2 months and the rest will be cash in your pocket which you can spend on anything.

I've had mine for about 6 months and am close to $150 in returns.

+2 for TD first class travel

Annual fee is waived if you have a select cheqing account, which fee is also waived if you have a $5000 balance.

I have the TD Infinite Travel card as well, points redemption is great. You can book anywhere you want on your own and have TD apply your points to your purchase after the fact. You can even go on your trip, charge everything to your card, food, entertainment, car rentals, etc. Then use all the points you accumulate towards the trip after you return.

Pretty nice system compared to the other cards I looked at.

Does it have to be Visa? The MBNA Smart Cash is the best free cash back CC out right now.

I've got and I like the RBC infinite Avion. No annual fee with the VIP banking.

It's amazing you get so many more points with the TD card when you have a corporate credit card

When I was doing research for a similar question, it appears that the Visa Infinite First Class from TD was the best option for benefits from an annual fee card.

    +1 for MBNA Smart Cash.
5% cash back on groceries and gas for six months then 3% on groceries and gas up to $600/month.
1% on everything else, no limit.

Check out the Red Flag Deals forum for more info, there is a thread with 250+ pages on this thing there.

I used to be a big advocate of travel points until I tried booking a vacation with a schwack load of points I accumulated over the years. Took forever over the phone to get something semi-reasonable as so much was blocked out. And the taxes and fees are astronomical. They tack on extra fees that you wouldn't be paying if one was to book travel via a website (fuel surcharge, points booking fees...). I found I wasn't saving very much at all as I could have found a vacation on sale somewhere instead of using my points at full price.

Keep it simple: cash back, no annual fee.

If you haven't already gotten a card, take a look at the Platinum Class Mastercard from CUETS Financial. It does have the drawback of a $150 annual fee, though, which I know will be a huge deterrant for many people. I got it because I was building a house this year so I have been able to get about $1500 in rewards back over the last 10 months.

You get 2% of all purchases in points which you can redeem either for merchandise on their site or for travel. If you find a seat sale or holiday you want to book, just have that info handy, phone their travel centre and tell them you want to book. They'll then book it for you and apply your points to cover the cost of the trip. If your points don't totally cover it the remainder will get charged to your card, which will then accumulate points.

Hoping the Royal Bank Avion VISA was a good choice. Seems like it so far.

Westjet is coming out with a points card within the next couple months, for those who use them for travel. The points system seemed pretty good... I'll try and find the info and post it up...
