Good afternoon everyone I would like to let everyone know without directly slandering the reputation of a certain Automotive auction service in Calgary.
I recently consigned my car to ****** auctions in calgary when I drove my car in the car was fully operational (the car I am referring to is my 1972 Mercedes) I left my car in their trust for a period of 2 weeks in trust that they would of course do the selling for me.
The Car of course did not sell (and with a reserve bid of 3000 dollars and a starting bid of 200 dollars why would it?)
Well after 2 weeks of consistent no go and no sell I decided to pick up my car last night and I was OUTRAGED to find that my baby was in need of a new fuel pump. (985.00 from Mercedes dealer and no wreckers in canada have on used)
It was not myself that had wrecked the fuel pump I drove the car in and I left it with 1/4 tank of gas... what had cause my fuel pump to be burned out was the lot attendant who left my car running and unattended for close to an hour allowing it to burn off every drop of fuel...(not to mention the risk of having it stolen at any moment) Once the car had run out of gas they continued trying for another half hour to restart it with a dry tank.
I advised the manager today of the little mechanical mishap and the manager told me "I have been in the car business for 30 years and have never seen a car wreck a fuel pump from running out of gas" (hmmm this is an inelligent statement) to which I inquired "have you been servicing cars this long or just selling them?" he told me he had been selling them this long.
Clearly getting nowhere in having my parts which were stupidy and carelessly damaged replaced. So I contacted the specialist... The Mercedes Technician at a local Benz dealer and to no surprise he told me what I already knew...based on the symptoms my car was suffering fuel pump was shot and likely caused by running the tank to dry.
So I would like to gather some professional and publical opinions on the matter.
1: Auto Techs--- Can a car have a fuel pump burnt out by running it dry and attempting to restart it without priming?
2: public--- A car which was left in the care of an auction company on consignement carelessly damages your vehicle and claims they are not at fault knowing well enough that you the owner Drove the fully operational unit into their yard before leaving it in their care. Should the auction company have to pay compensation for the damage caused by their negligence?
Please don't hesitate to voice your opinion as this is what I have posted this for.
Thanks
