Say hello to understeer and torque steer.

OOPS. Rear wheel drive?! Doooh. Well that sounds.. strange. Still front heavy though

Really though, wouldn't some 2.5 liter Turbo be a bit more ?

not front heavy when you have a drive axle in the back.
most people dont realize how light some of fords v8s are.
and no, a 2.5l turbo would not be faster.

I don't think the rear axle weighs that much - or does it? And even with the compacter size of that engine, what is the weight of it?

The V shape does not help with center of gravity either.

yeah axles are feather light. go to the junk yard and pick one up. they dont weigh a thing.

standard 302 weighs as much as a 13b, if that gives you an idea.

further distributed weight will effect the center of gravity, yes. so will the added height of an inline engine. V engines are shorter.

boxer is the ideal setup, but what are you gonna do?

the point is: that car would seriously ass rape practically everything on the street, and 'import' nutswingers dont want to admit it.

Oh, to me, everything except saabs, volvo and koenigsegg's are imports.

Well, let us just see some weight specifications, that would settle it.

Dropping a five litre into a miata causes the car to gain about 100lbs (course, its already rear wheel drive). The motors in the focus and miata are fairly similar dimensions wise, though a focus will probably gain a bit more weight due to the rear wheel drive conversion. The 100% improvement in power to weight ratio after the swap would dramatically increase performance potential of the car
Drag racing is for fast cars. Solo 2 is for fast drivers.

Look at it this way :
    Take Mikko's avatar (Vanquish V12 ) , loose about 40 hp and 60lb of torque,and about 800 lbs of weight = not slow !

Also keep in mind with the V8 you've got a tranny mounted further to the rear, compared to the tranny for the 4 cyl.
