At least the driver was charged, and thankfully no one was seriously hurt.
Which politician is that? If you're referring to the former Attorney-General who was driving the car that the bike courier grabbed onto and died when he fell off, his case was just in court today for a procedural hearing, and I think the next court date is scheduled for November. How is that getting away with murder?Originally posted by J NRG
One politician gets away with murder so the whole fucking province throws it to the wind?

Well, I don't want to get caught up in a long discussion of bail, so this is all that I'll say about it.
I haven't seen his release conditions, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are quite lenient. He probably doesn't have a prior record - so no record of missing previous court dates. I'd be surprised if there's evidence that suggests he's a danger to reoffend while on release, and otherwise I can't think of any particular reason that he needs to be under tight control before he's tried.
Release conditions aren't meant to be punishment, they're meant to control people so that they don't reoffend before trial and to ensure that they go to court. If the crown isn't concerned about those two issues, there's not much reason to control him too much. That's why I think that having lenient release conditions shouldn't be characterized as 'getting away with murder.'
