Handheld vacuums

My mom has a handheld vacuum cleaner that's starting to live its life out (~15 years!) and my sister and I would like to get her a new one. Does anyone have any good recommendations for one? We're not looking to break the bank, but we'd like something decent.

I've got the dyson dc16. Great little handheld, gets at all the crumbs my kid leaves on the couch and ottoman. Easy to empty, although it can get messy when the dust floats around. I'm biased, I have a dyson upright too.

Yeah I have the dyson hand held....just got it recently...great vacuum but $200.

I have an Electrolux and it is good - great suction and easy to empty. It doesn't drop crumbs dirt back out. The battery is a little quick to drain, but not a huge deal. They are a LOT less than the Dysons, about $60 at The Bay.

Try the Shark ones at Crappy Tire. They go on sale cheap and are really powerful.

They're really loud and get pretty hot. I've got one of those to clean the car. Not that the dyson is a silent performer, but I'll take that over the shark for in home use.

I have the dirt devil scorpion. It has tonnes of power.. it sounds like a shop vac when you turn it on. Its corded though =P
