What are some of your thoughts on the finalists? There a lot of good shots in there, but I don't really understand how some of the skyline shots got selected. Not that they're not good or anything, but they seem to lack in originality. I can't count how many similiar shots I've either taken myself or seen other people take. I'm sure I've even seen a few simliar shots posted by beyond members on here as well.

FYI, this is not a "sour grapes" rant either. I will admit that I entered a couple early on in the contest and knew I'd probably get my butt kicked after seeing the entries as they came in. I'm just surprised that some of the finalists weren't more original.

I'm pretty sure the 3 photos I submitted are better than 75% of that fucking junk in this contest. God damn these "judges" don't have a clue. HDR LANDSCAPES OF CALGARY, TEN OF THEM! OMG which one do we choose.

Some of them are pretty good, I like the snow pic with the large tree and family. ALL of the HDR shots fucking suck. I already have a bias against them but fuck, those are at the extreme end of shit-tastic.

The family under the tree, the COP photo, and the shopping carts I thought were OK, but man, some of those are horrid.

yikes, most of those were pretty boring. I don't really bother entering these contests because it caters to the bland, generic, and uninteresting but even some of these were pretty bad.

I liked the family under the tree and the shopping carts. The T/S shot taken from the calgary tower (second in the second row) had the idea, but the composition and subject wasn't exactly moving.

*flames suit on* I try very hard not to ever bash pictures, they are someone’s art, someone is proud of it and if they have the balls to put them up on the web then good for them. But most of those are terrible. Lol.

the calgary pano shots are rather boring, IMO those kind of shots should never win.

I like the crane reflection from the old window, interesting concept but not a great shot either.

the steel tree, family under the tree and the skater and graffiti pics are the other ones i thought were ok.
