For some reason, when I turn on my computer, i get a black screen on the monitor. All the cables are tight and everything is plugged in correctly. I've taken out the ram one by one but still no luck. Any suggestions?

As in, the screen stays black the whole time or just at startup? If the former, perhaps the bulb in your monitor simply burnt out?

My computer was fine since yesterday. The lights on the computer turn on but the monitor stays black. Could it be the power supply or motherboard?
Try a different monitor if you have one. If that works, it's the monitor. If it's still black, there's probably an issue with the video card or motherboard.
I'd guess video card. But it's hard to know without looking at it. Does the motherboard still post (beep) a few seconds after you turn it on?
So OP youre saying that the PC turns on (all the fans start wirring and making noise), you can hear the computer beeping through the startup phase, the HDD light flashes .... but youre just not getting any video signal whatsoever?
What type of monitor?
Also, most monitors will tell you "NO SIGNAL" when the video card isnt sending anything... nothing like this here?

The monitor is a NEC. It doesn't say anything in the lines of no signal.Originally posted by revelations

Also, the computer doesn't beep which means it can't pass POST?
Has it beeped in the past?
If its not doing it now, its getting hung up somewhere in POST then.
The computer has never beeped. Could it be a dead mobo?Originally posted by revelations

Does hard drive light blinks as usual boot up or stays down?
I think you need a working computer or working monitor to prove which is dead.
When you start up the pc listen carefully to what it's doing. Open the case if you have to. If it just makes a startup noise, then nothing, then it's not booting propery which can be a lot of things. If you can hear it go through the normal startup cycle then it's possibly just the monitor or video card.
Heres what we have so far:
-You can hear/see the PC fans spinup
-The HDD light flashes indicating activity
-The monitor stays dark with no signals or change in the power LED status of the monitor (if it has one - some have one by the main switch)
-The PC has NEVER beeped at POST (came that way from factory) - which wont tell us anything.
Sounds like a bad monitor.
Here are the things I have tried:
1. Used a different monitor. No Luck
2. Took out the graphics card and used onboard. No Luck
3. Opened the case and listened for unusual sounds. All I hear are the fans.
4. Observed the HDD light. Flashes on bootup then stops.
Press any of the monitors buttons used to adjust its brightness, see if they at least show up.
I'm on the laptop connected to the monitor I use for the desktop. Can't be a monitor problem.
Your desktop is dead.
Since it won't post, 2 possibilities, dead mobo or dead ps and mobo.
Thanks for all the help guys. Probably head over to memory express and buy a new mobo.
Before you do, try taking out the RAM sticks and booting it up. Then stick one back in (if you have two), try different slots.
