Donnington is having trouble finding the money. Silverstone would be the obvious backup plan, but Bernie is offering them the same high-priced deal they already refused. In true Bernie fashion, he's says it's not critical to have a British GP on the calendar and he won't change the price.

A Silverstone spokesman said the contract referred to by the billionaire is not "commercially viable", but Ecclestone insists he is not prepared to agree a "cut price" British Grand Prix deal.
Why not? He gave Montreal one...

Did he? They haven't reached a deal yet, have they?

Donington admitted that their effort to sell bonds to raise money for the upgrades has failed. Bernie's call now....

Me neither. Here's the last press release from Formula 1:

    2010 schedule - as of Oct 21, 2009

Canada is the only GP marked Subject to the completion of contract negotiations with Formula One Management. There's no cut rate deal - yet.

Still, they were offered a "price cut" to host the GP: http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headline...13142214.shtml

Why not give Silverstone or Donnington a cut as well to keep a great GP on the calender (better than Canadian GP imo)

^^ actually, in the oldfucks mind, the Canadian GP is more important than the British GP believe it or not. To have a GP in North America is important for the teams marketing wise

Formula 1 commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone has categorically insisted there will be no British Grand Prix at Donington Park next year. "There's no Donington," said Ecclestone at the new Yas Marina track in Abu Dhabi ahead of the final race of 2009

Bernie: "We're talking," he said. "A deal can be done if they [Silverstone] want to."

Yep, all they have to do is make out a gargantuan cheque and it's all good!

You know, there's enough entertainment in F1 that we'd still have lots to talk about even if they didn't run any races.

Berni needs to stop acting like it's such a god damn privilege to host (and compete in) F1! No wonder circuits and teams keep leaving with the way he manages the business...

    Donington files for bankruptcy protection
Two British World Champions driving for a British team and no British GP (so far nothing more has been said about Silverstone).

It's baa-aaack! At Silverstone in 2010 and for 16 years after that. Going to be a lot of excitement in the U.K.!
