    Default Used engagement rings?

Anyone ever bought a used one? I'm not really shopping for one, but looking around at whats out there, and like many other things, used seems like it may be a good option to get more for your $$$.. The biggest issues I can see are making sure one isn't fake, and finding the right sized ring for your girl.. What are the options there? Find a diamond you like and then worry about getting it set in a ring you want, or can they size down rings?

this seems to be one of the bigger sites out there>

But being alberta, theres also a lot on kijiji most days.

...Also, is this looked down on by girls, or do you just not tell them where you got it? ha

You can get rings re-sized very easily, so don't worry about getting the right size. If it has no marks on it (even if it does, get a jeweller to fix it), or no message engraved on the diamond, then how the hell will she ever know?

You don't tell them where you got it.

Just get it polished before you give it to her.

I'd probably buy the stone second hand, but get it set in a brand new ring.

    AND you're just "looking"....

Buy a diamond seperatly and then have the band made.

I bought my diamond in mexico with all its Doc's and then had the guy in market mall make my band and add more diamonds. Turned out awesome.

Hes going to be doing matching wedding bands.

ahh! Just make sure the girl isn't reading this thread or she will be threatening. Lots of women don't want used rings...selling used rings will sometime mean the engagement was called off or ended in divorce...and some women wouldn't want "bad luck"

now....if you re-word it to estate ring. Whole different vibe.

But yeah..I think buy the ring for the stone have it reset, you can reuse the gold from the ring itself. Diamonds have serial numbers anyone selling would normally have a certificate of appraisal.

But I agree, you can probably get some pretty good deals from people just wanting to have them out of the house.

But I do think it's smart shopping. Jewelry stores are so overpriced...

We couldn't find anything we liked this year when hunting for our rings... Eventually were refered to a local goldsmith - dee adamas designs (use google); she took gold & precious/semi-precious stones at market rate... And 40$/hr for labour.

    Custom rings ftw!

Although I did go with a titanium ring for myself...

If your looking for bang for the buck, arent synthetic diamonds a good option these days? My understanding is that they are chemically identical to a "mined" diamond, but are much cheaper. I think the only thing is they can't make them super huge.

I'm not looking to cheap out on it really, I'm just a guy who likes his deals. Something like a 5 or 6k ring for 3 or 4k type deal.

.... I mean, if I were shopping for one.

By all means I wasn't meaning it would be cheap..but I think you could get a smoking ring used for that amount of cash.

Theoretically, yes. But a fake diamond is very easy to spot and screams cheap ass. I cant think of any girl who would take a fake diamond over a real, but smaller, one.

I got my wifes diamond from a dealer in States, they gave me 30 days to have it inspected to verify it was what they said. I then had a ring made in Calgary.

I dont think i would buy a used ring but i dont see any harm in a used diamond.

There's just some things you gotta step up and spend the money on.

I'd bet my money your girlfriend doesn't want one of the most important and memorable days of her life symbolized with the sparkling remnants of someone else's failure.

I'm all for a deal too, so I ended up playing a lot of the local places against each other using quotes from online vendors like Blue Nile. In the end I saved about 4k.

Synthetic diamonds aren't cubic zirconium. They are identical to natural diamonds. If anything synthetic diamonds are too perfect since conditions can be controlled so that they are flawless. No girl could spot a synthetic diamond next to a natural diamond unless someone pointed it out.
