Default DELL Inspiron 1545 Keyboard "O - Key' problem.

    Hi All,

My girlfriend has a DELL Inspiron 1545. Last week, she was typing away, when she depressed the 'O' key and noticed it wouldn't click properly. I gave it a peek, and found it detached from the tiny linkage system underneath it.

The key's on these Dell Laptops are much more complicated than the typical desktop keyboards I've grown accustomed to where you can easily remove keys.

I attempted to simply affix. No luck. It's not as simple, to just align and then depress it downwards. As I mentioned before there's this sort of ladder linkage that attaches the key to the keyboard --- it reduces the travel for the key I'm assuming. (lighter/more compact)

Anyway, I'm wondering if any of you have experience fixing these keyboards? Have any advice on how to go about simply attaching the letter 'O' back to the keyboard properly. The key still works, and passes the 'hit' down to the microboard, but the actual ease of suppressing it, and the misalignment is well, quite fucking irritating LOL..

We called DELL, and their call centre guy suggested sending it away for 2 weeks. At this time that just isn't feasible. There's alot on her plate; the laptop is needed for the next while. Further, it'd be much easier to simply fix it at home.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It's hard to recommend what to do and also guarantee it won't break.

So Disclaimer: If you break it. not my fault

use a knife to pry up on the front of the key. if the "ladder" gets removed with it. align it back in the hole on the keyboard. i recommend taking this part out(gently it is very prone to breaking). If it's sticky, wash it.

to replace the key. i place the "ladder" back in the spot. I press on the top of the key and slowly press downwards until i hear a click, and press the front of the key until i hear a click.

I hope this is what you're asking for and that i'm not misunderstanding the problem.

    ^ What he said.

Simply taking the key off and putting it back on usually fixes everything. Don't pry too hard at the key, if it won't come off try prying from a different side.

It's a keyboard... try calling them again and asking them to ship you a replacement. It's the easiest thing to replace.
