    Default Airdrie.. awesome speed limits

So, work sent me out to Airdrie to deliver some propane tanks today, (first time actually going inside Airdrie rather than driving right through).. so, I get in the res area and there was a beautiful little peace officer car nudged in between 2 cars doing radar, so ya like any other human being out there, eyes went quickly down on the speedo.. okay 53.. not bad, so i drive past the cop car, and oh look, shiny lights in my rear view... WOOOOOOHOoo, so she pulls me over, i ask her why i get pulled over.. oh who woulda a thought 30km in residential areas... hmmmmm, and no sign posted anywhere? and it wasnt like i was trying to speed, im driving a truck that tops out at 95km/h and takes like 2 minutes to get up to 60k.. hahaha... sooooooooo sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet..

so what is school zones.. 10km/h?? after much debate, and i guess not enough sweet talking.. a hefty $156 fine. awesome day, thanks for listening.

Airdrie is a joke, as are their enforcement crews. They need to be absorbed by Calgary already

I used to live in Airdrie and I can confirm that pretty much the entire town is a 30 zone unless otherwise posted. It's some kind of city-wide bylaw. Makes school zones and such pretty useless, since they are also 30, just larger fines if you are inside one of those.

That makes your road test really easy though, as you can idle around town and you have lots of time.

Shitty deal man, back when my gf lived out there I was always cruising through the residential areas at 50, I didn't find out about the 30km/h speed limit until she moved into Calgary.

Luckily I never got a ticket for it

Ya, there has to be a sign. Highway Traffic And Safety Act specifies that unmarked areas are 50. One town can't do whatever the hell they want.

There must be a sign, somewhere. You just missed it. It's probably just as you pull off the highway or something like that. Shitty deal. I had no idea.

Too bad google streetview doesn't have Airdrie mapped yet. I know for sure there are signs on Allen street tho!

Wow, that would drive me fucking nuts to have to go 30 KM/H everywhere. Seriously.

Especially if their definition of "residential area" is as lax as our definition of a "playground zone".

He was complaining that the speed limits suck and they're poorly signed (if at all).

Because they read the by-laws before entering another municipality. You think that every rule between the BC and AB Traffic Acts is highlighted with signs? No, it's the responsibility of everybody to know the laws of a location before they travel there.

Does anybody know Airdrie traffic by-law 204? You -have- to stop whenever you cross a sidewalk or exit a driveway. Of course nobody from Calgary or Edmonton is gonna know that, but can you be ticketed for it? Hell yeah.

This is just like the "Park Facing In" tickets. Silly and largely useless? Yep. Legal? Yep.

It's 30km/h everywhere there except alleys (20km/h) and parking lots (15km/h). I assume they don't have red light cameras or photo radar so they need to constantly bust out-of-towners to get their ticket income :P

That's the law here too, no?

The 30 km/hr on all roads unless otherwise posted is stupidity. Yes a municipality can set it's own traffic laws but changing something so basic as this is nothing but taxation.

Mmeeh ... I live in Airdrie and I normally see signs posted everywhere ... main roads are all 50 or 60 and when you normally enter an inner residential area, the entrance will have a 30km sign posted.

8 street specially is all single road yet it's still 60 .. in Calgary a road like that would probably be 50.
