    Default First time to Vegas

Heading to Vegas Dec 10-14th. I'm 22, what are the must see sights? The best places to eat? I want to play some tournament style poker over the 4 days I'm there... any recommendations for which casino? I only plan to gamble with about $200-$400... and most of that on poker. I'd like to make it last if possible... nothing high stakes.

I'm not huge on clubs, but what's a more laid back place to hang out at night? Right now I'm going by myself, but hopefully a friend or two joins me.

Oh, and I want to shoot an AK47. Whats the best gun range?

There is a place there where you can shoot an AK47, I think it's called "The Gun Store" not too sure, but you'll see advertisements everywhere for that place.

Ellis Island just off the strip has $1.50 pints of beer, and i think it's $12.99 for a Baby back rib dinner?

Rare 120 has AWESOME steak. There was another place that did an amazing prime rib dinner for $6.99 as well, again the name slipped my mind.

Essentially, there is good cheap food everywhere.

Not too sure about gambling, but some decent night spots are: Jet (in Mirage), Studio 54 (in MGM Grand), Tryst (in Wynn), and Tao

    Hey,

I got back a couple months ago and just turned 21 so I can prob help you. I went to play poker only and ending up blowing 5 grand at the damn roulette table so a tip is $100 here and $100 there ads up quick when your in vegas.
I stayed at the strat and the poker room was a joke. Go to caesers for some good poker with tourists. At the venetian I found alot of skilled players and was tough.
A must do is the reverse drop of fear thing at the top of the strat. I forget what it was called. The other 2 rides arent nearly as good.
The strip clubs are pretty fun. Pricey drinks but its an experience you must try if you havent been to a strip club outside of Canada.
If you plan on drinking dont order high balls from the floor. By the time you get another itll be as though you never had 1. Stick with beer.
Other than that just walking the strip is great for a first time experience. Go into every hotel/casino...the venetian has a section where you feel like its 12 noon when its 10 pm because the ceiling is painted like daylight and is soo realistic.
Dont get tricked into buying passes from street venders for events. When you get to the destination every person in line will have one and they are useless.

It may sound stupid or cheap but seriously hit up the buffets. I know there is alot of excellent resto's in Vegas, and you definitely need to hit up a nice restaurant as well.

But some of the buffets are really nice. The one in the Paris Casino isn't bad at all and there is a couple other decent ones. I mean not that expensive, all you can eat and some have booze, maybe not all, haven't been to vegas in about 3 years.

Breakfast buffets are awesome since most have sparkling wine and oj.

I definitely liked staying at the Mandalay Bay, because they have a very nice pool area and an aquarium with sharks and such.

Hit up a Cirque du Soleil show as well if you have the time. It's one thing I regret not doing when I went all those times.

Ha every buffet i went to i had stomach issues after, except the one at PH where i ONLY had shrimp and crab legs

but stomach ache was nothing a cold tall can of budweiser can't fix... at 7:30 in the morning

and i also remember turning down cirque du soleil tickets to go and get wasted instead, i wish i'd at least gone to see that while in vegas

i remember one cab driver told me, 'even if you live in vegas you can't do everything that it has to offer' so dont try to overexert yourself with the extreme sightseeing your first time, you want it to be a memorable experience!

most of the money i spend when i go there is on clothes i cant get here and the clubs/ dj events

Yeah the shopping is top notch in Vegas. I hate shopping but in Vegas I always bring quite a few hundred dedicated to buying new clothes.

Wait.... You blew five grand at the roulette table, tip $100 bills, and you stayed at the Stratosphere? Am I reading that right? lol

If you're throwing around that much coin, you should have at least stayed somewhere less trashy haha.

I think he said a good tip to keep in mind is that spending $100 here and $100 there adds up quickly and before you know it you are up to $5000.

Agreed Stratosphere is where you stay if you're the opposite of ballin hehe. Even the Tropicana is a huge step up. I'd rather stay at Circus Circus almost than stay at Stratosphere hehe. I've never even gone that far down the strip to visit that hotel...I'm sure there's much nicer on the strip for about the same price you'd pay there.

I've went down to Vegas a few times to play poker.. I'm not sure how much you can do with a $200-400 budget. Mind you I much prefer to play in the bigger/well known poker room, ie Wynn, Mirage and MGM, but I think even their cheapest weekday afternoon tourney starts at like $60 USD.. play one tourney and a few hours of 1/2NL and I think your $400 budget could be gone by the end of day 1.

Also there are quite a bit of sit-n-go tournies so that might be of interesting.. although most of them also starts @ $70 if I remembered correctly....

    I only play 1/2NL

A lot of casinos have smaller buy-in daily tournaments. When I went a few years ago, O Shea's had a nice daily tournament that was pretty easy to clean up.

The buffets are awesome. I didn't really like the buffet at Paris, but I liked Bellagio's and the Rio's buffet is f-ing huge.

Thanks for the advice, right now, the Excallibur has rooms for $40 a night, so thats my number 1 pick. As for the poker tournies, I plan to do a $40-$70 dollar sng every day, and then maaybe hit the 1/2 NL, but your right, I dont expect to be doing a lot with $400, that might change. Are there large shopping malls, if I'm looking for clothes?

Anybody hear anything bout the two new hotels that opened up, Aria and Vdara? Their rates are pretty good, $650/person for Vdara for 4 nights 5 days and all airfare and $700 for Aria. Wondering if it's worth booking there or just stay at MGM or The Hotel.

They are just opening up.. It is mostly going to be baller condo's so I am sure the places you will be renting will be sick. It is a perfect location, but you can def save money and stay @ mgm and have pretty much the same amount of fun...

The hotel is a little far tho...
