Fraudulent Bills

Well, last night I found out that all the bills in my wallet were fake. It is very embarrassing, to say the least, when you are unable to purchase anything.

I wanted to know who experienced this before but more importantly I wanted to know what some options are. I also have some unanswered questions that someone on here might be able to answer:

Can I take this cash to a bank for proper disposal?

Do I go back to the place where I got the bills from (which is a bit difficult to track down)?

Does the business where you attempt to purchase something have the authority to seize the fraudulent money?

Dumb question: Is there a way for me to get real money for my fake bills, or do I take it as a loss? I don't mean to be stingy, but I am sure there are people on here in positions where every bit of money helps.


Suggestions, stories, experiences would be appreciative.

ALL the bills? How is that possible by random chance? You would have had to get them ALL at the same location.

You always take fake money to the POLICE station to have them handle the situation.

And in most cases you are SOL. Somebody giving you fake money is like them stealing from you.

hmmm....tough call, how much cash we talking about? Lots?? From what I hear, the police needs to be involved....I'm speaking from my prior retail experience. And I don't think they reimburse (hense my first 2 questions)

I`m pretty sure if you take it to bank or police you wont get shit back.

Also I would try to track down and possibly hold the business that gave them to you responsible as it should be their responsibility to verify cash coming in and going out.

If you get caught using fake bills, I`m pretty sure the business does not have to give them back.

There was a fake twenty in one of the tills a work a while back. The Bank won't give you a real one for it...I called the RCMP to take a look and they said they send it to the Mint or something like that and if it's fake they destroy it and you're out the money...if it turns out it wasn't fake they'd mail it back to me.

SOL, another reason I don't use cash and when I do, I check every bill I get back. Been passed fake bills from almost every place I shop and I usually give it back to them right the way. Once you walk out, it's your loss.

So the bank or police wont let you exchange it and they take it from you then why would you even want to report it. I cant see how that helps fight fake bills.

i had that happen once, just took it back to the retailer i got it from, it was only $5 so they just gave me a new one.

I have never heard of a fake $5 bill. There is too little reward for faking a bunch of 5 dollar bills considering the cost of startup and potential for being busted.

Don't even worry about a vending machine. As long as the bills are less than $50, go to McDonalds or Wal-Mart or somewhere with cashiers that just want to do their job and go the fuck home.

Every fake $5 I've gotten has gone to bacon cheeseburgers.

I figured getting my money back would be a long-shot, or even proving to police where I got it from without being considered a suspect in the production of these bills.

It's not a lot of money (anymore... seeing that I have spent it slowly over the week without incident). Looking at $60 left to deal with. $10 or $5 bills.

Does anyone know if the retailer is allowed to seize the bills?

I feel freaking retarded at this point, i didn't protect myself at all!

Ya... fake fivers doesn't make sense.

20s MAYBE... I'd say it's mostly gonna be 50s and 100s.

The smaller the bill, the less likely someone is going to check to see if it's fake. Nobody accepts $100's, most don't accept $50's. A lot of places check $20's. Overall, it makes sense to make small bills.

Just spoke to a co-worker and he said it can be covered under home insurance if you have it. His is up to $500/year, no deductible and you can only do it once a year.
