The final portion of the motiv action course is to work in the field for two months.

I've had 4 different people volunteer at the lube shop i used to work at. I was shocked at how little they knew about cars when they came to work with us after being in motivaction courses for 4 months(i think) prior to arriving at our shop.

So from my experience in working with the people that were taking the courses, no, i don't recommend it. However maybe we just got all the F students?

There was no job to get. The boss just took the volunteer time and free labour. We didn't need anyone.

The only risk with that is the screw ups that they could potentially cause.

But hold on, let me elborate before getting flamed... I'm not against "noob" techs as I'm not an expertise in all aspect of an entire vehicle neither... I'm talking about, by the sound of your interactions with the 4 volunteers not knowing what's going on in just a lube shop, sounds like they haven't been paying attention in class or simply just don't care.

I know someone who went there, either before or after getting (barely) her AST from SAIT... She failed to properly tighten a drainplug once, and somehow stripped or destroyed something brake/rotor related another time... nugh.

Is it that they don't care, or is it that the course is bad? I have no way of knowing. But 4 out of 4 doing poorly to me does represent the course.
