    Default demerits

if you're a registered driver in alberta and got a ticket in B.C, will the demerit go in your alberta record?

Still they can forward information to Alberta and the demerits will be tacked on.

    No it won't

I live in BC/AB/ON, they don't register between provinces.

Which ticket in BC did you get?

It is possible, and the BC government can tell the Alberta government about it and have them apply the appropriate demerit points, however I have never seen it happen.

my ticket did not appear on my drivers abstract.

i received a speeding ticket in B.C. this summer, i had to get an updated drivers abstract not three weeks ago and the ticket was not on it. no demerits as there is no record of ticket.

You paid it or did not pay it?

I just got a ticket in BC for speeding on a downhill :/ I think I was passing somebody and got nailed at 153 km/h in a 100 km/h zone - ouch! The cop gave me the lowest amount for excessive speeding since I do not have a bad record. I really could do without those demerits.

I've always been told demerits don't transfer from province to province.

Nope, they do not transfer. I am in operations of a trucking company throughout Canada and the US ... and any tickets or demerits from out of province/state are NOT put on your license.
I actually read a very specific article in one of my transport magazines recently, that was about BC tickets NOT going to an Alberta abstract.

I think you kinda have to pay it. Otherwise, they COULD put a warrant out for your arrest... which would certainly cause you problems the next time you get pulled over in that province.

    This is incorrect I believe.

Back in 2010 they did not transfer but I believe it was 2014 or so that they changed things and they transfer between provinces now.

I went through a traffic issue last year stemming from BC, they can share info, but never/ rarely do (even for serious matters).

This is from my lawyer, not internet knowledge.

As well, nothing every showed on my Alberta abstract.

I would be more concerned about my car being impounded for getting caught speeding in BC... Be happy its just a fine and move on?
