Default What to do in Cancun!?

Seems like a lot of these threads are popping up latley.... I am heading down to Cancun for 2 weeks for my second time in a few days with my GF. Can any of you guys suggest some cool things to do there other than Coco bongo and Chichen Itza? Such as good excursions, other good beaches to visit, which are the good night clubs to go to and also restaurants to try?

Damn I havn't been in a long time, but you can always go check out Playa Del Carmen in Mayan Rivera and walk 5th ave its like a 40min drive but its really nice out there

In cancun, you can walk down the strip and look @ all the hotels but you cant go in them which sucks...

You can rent scooters and go visit the city..

I really liked Basic? I think it was called, the club that is located ON the lagoon!

If you try to get on the excursions you can bargin the prices with most of the people there...

Tulum is nice but a bit of a ride from Cancun.

Zip Lining is tons of fun.

Xel Ha, XCarat or similar makes for a decent day.

Xel Ha sucks and is way overpriced. Do your own snorkeling in the ocean. I recommend Bonanza beach/campground, its about 10min before Xel Ha and has great snorkeling with reefs. Or else catch a ferry out to Cozumel.

Chichen Itza was good, but now you are not alllowed to climb it.

Basic was the coolest club I went to in Cancun, Bullydog also was solid. Clubbing wise you just have to follow the masses and it'll be a good time.
If you waterski or ever wanted too, you can buy a day pass at Clubmed and do as much as you'd like. Watch out for the gator that lives in the marsh, jk you actually will see it swimming around. Nothing to worry about though since the boat scares it away.

Thanks guys these are all great ideas.... Have any of you gone and explored surrounding beaches? I have heard the beach in Cancun itself is receeding from all the recent hurricanes? Can you use the beaches infront of all the hotels i9n the hotel zone or are they private to the fronting hotels? We would really like to go and see some awesome tropical beaches so if there are any suggestions I would love to hear them!

Like said above, its so secluded most locals do not even know about it.

But, ya the beaches are receeding. We have been to the royal real 3 times in the last 2 years (playa del carmen) and the beach has def gone down.

Beaches at the hotels are pretty much non-existent. Get an all-inclusive, sit in/by the pool, get some sun and get druuuunk! I believe staying at a hotel gets you access to the rest of the beach, or at least the neighboring resorts...

Tulum is boring- unless you're there before the crowds and can stretch your elbows. Its not worth touring to from Cancun. If you want to check out ruins, I would highly recommend renting a car with a friend and (since your in the north) and check out Chichen-Itza or some similar ruin up there.

Having a car will give you flexibility to find a nice beach after the ruins. Make a day trip out of it and it'll be the cheapest "tour" you'll ever take.

Thumbsdown to Xcaret park for more reasons than can be named.

I could be under the wrong impression but you can grab a ferry to Isla Mujeres (closer to Cancun than Cozumel) and there should be nice beaches and if you're into it, boogy boarding/surfing. I know Cozumel was quite windy the day we were there and there were some decent waves to play around in.
