Default Edmonton - Highway 2 - NW Ring Road - Highway 1...gas stations?

So from Edmonton to Banff, are there any gas stations to stop for a refill once I hit Calgary? Route to be taken is Highway 2 - NW Ring Road - Highway 1.

Not without a detour. Better to get a fill up in Red Deer on the way down so you can go Red Deer to banff non stop.

Petro-Can just past the Hwy 22 exit.

Your car should at least make it to Canmore...

This is the way I usually go if I don't have to stop in Calgary.
With no stops it takes about 3 to 3.5 hrs to Canmore.

Off the ring road, if you take the Beddington Trail West exit, there is a CO-OP Gas bar directly on your right.

The Petro-Canada at Highway 1 x Highway 22 is 16 kilometers from Stoney Trail (the ring road) x Highway 1. There used to be an Esso where Stoney met Highway 1, but they demolished it and took over the land in order to build the intersection (which sucks - besides the fact that there's lots of land they could have relocated him to, the station had just gone through a total refit about a year before).

If Shell is more your liking, there's a station about 2km east on Highway 1 from Stoney, across from Canada Olympic Park. Past the Petro-Can going west, you will see a Husky (I think) about 20km out of Canmore, and then all kinds of stations in Canmore itself.

I hope they are thinking of allowing some service stations to build somewhere along the Stoney Trail... it's certainly needed and in a lot of places they have (literally) acres of room to do it in.

That is only about a 450km trip. Make sure you are full when you leave Edmonton and basically any car on the market should be able to make that trip.

Only when I am towing do I have to stop when I make that trip.

I am really interested to hear how the trip goes for you traffic wise and time wise. I make that trip often and I typically get off of the QE2 at Ardrie and go through Cochrane or sometimes even get on the 2A at Carstairs and do the 3C's (Carstairs, Cremona, Cochrane) just to avoid Calgary. Haven't tried the ring road though yet so please post how it goes.

The trip won't happen for another couple weeks but thought I'd ask in advanced

I know I have to stop in Calg, even if I stop in Red Deer already. I tend to drink lots of fluids while on LD trips and piss like there's no tomorrow.

I guess that Petro Can just west of Calg is a good stop.
