    Default Winter 2010 Easy Options

    Hey all,

Need a few easy options (200 or 300 level) to take this semester. Any reccomendations or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Bunch of 300 level ECONs are jokes. Look up the thread on it.

Geology 301 and 305(?) were pretty easy

Biology 307 and 305 (textbook not required)

Here's something you might want to consult. Pay close attention to page 25. Kind of shatters the myth that senior level economics classes are GPA boosters, doesn't it? Only accounting, applied math, biology, chemistry and mathematics senior courses have lower average GPAs!

    http://oia.ucalgary.ca/system/files/643_2730.pdf

The subjects that correspond to GPA boosters should be fairly easy to figure out.

Not enough information on the types of students that take those courses to judge that they aren't easier. The ones i've taken (as much as I possible could since Haskayane only lets you have 3 or 4 total including required ECON courses) were jokes but thats my experience.

If were using the same logic, Health Science must be the easiest since they have the most A's (and 4.0s). I was in the program, its harder than science (one of the hardest degrees by the same logic) and is a honors program. Those numbers don't take into account how self selected the students are.

Also since its using a simple number count of As, if the class scales the grades, like sr. accounting, bio, chem (can't speak for math but id be surprised if they didn't scale). The number of A's (includes A+/A/A- grades unless im misreading it) is set to around 25% of the class (varies) regardless of class difficulty.

I took glgy301 last year with Leslie Reid and the class was an easy A+. No textbook req'd; no final exam. All I did was go to class, study her Bb notes for a few hours before each exam, and put in about 10 hrs for the group project (worth 50% of your grade). There were no lectures for half of the semester (time was allocated for group meetings).

I've heard glgy305 is interesting, but don't know much about the difficulty

Better yet, compare Economics to the courses offered in Communication and Culture -- Economics has a higher high school/transfer grade cutoff to get in than communication and culture, and enrolments in many economics classes are restricted to majors up intil a few days before the semester begins (by them most, if not all of these restricted classes are full). Any student chosen at random could enroll in Latin American Studies / Law and Society / Science, Technology & Society / Development studies classes and based on the grade distribution, obtain a higher grade than they would in economics. I don't think that Communication and Culture has any restrictions on who can enroll in their classes, meaning that you can get a wide cross section of students from many different faculties (not just students who had an 83%+ HS average for admission, as is the case in the Health Sciences program).

As for me I'm taking an MBA level finance class as an elective for the coming semester -- will definitely be an "easy option" for me in comparison to the work I'm used to doing for 600 level economics classes

MUHL 309.XX classes (essentially music appreciation classes) were exceptionally easy when I took two of them back in 2005-2006 before Victor Coelho left the U of C. I don't know if it's still the same without him still around.

MBA courses are the same as undergrad courses at the UofC since they target career switchers too. This is straight from one of the profs teaching both undergrad and MBA level classes.

Masters and PHD level courses are different and can't be compared to an MBA.

That econ restriction has never stopped me. I just got a friend to class sit (most people don't seem to take 5 courses) and just leave when I can actually enroll.

Although this is just word of mouth, my friends claim that in the 300 level courses (the easy ones mentioned) they meet more people from other degrees than from econ. Guess im not the only one class sitting. It is annoying though that its restricted for so long.

Not really getting the argument. I was saying that link was a bad metric for judging class difficulty. Your example pulls up institutional restrictions which doesn't sort for motivation of the students. Self selection causes a biased sample so causation is hard to identify and meaningless to compare the results of any 2 faculties. Its like comparing the average grades of the IB/AP class to the regular class in high school. Apples and oranges.

+1 for goph 375 <-- really easy but the class fills quick

Does anyone know any easy course to take in the Faculty of Humanities or Fine Arts at the 200 level?? I am currently signed up for Art 233: 3D, because that was the first one I found that was open, but I am by no means an artistic person, so I am looking for a easier alternative right now, thanks in advance.

I heard Hexham gives you a "practice test" that is nearly identical to the real exam? True?

    More or less.
He is so unorganized. Sometimes you can get a practice test that has every question on the exam and sometimes you can get one that is only partial.
He wouldn't notice the difference when he gives them to you.
If you can do Rels 205 with Anne White instead I would do it with her even though she is a crazy bitch.
