Greenland - Arctic Circle Trail

I'm interested in heading to Greenland and hiking the trail from Kangerlussuaq to Sisimiut in July / August. Probably July 24 - Aug. 3 or so. It's an 8-12 day hike from what I've been reading.

Old dates. Now Sept. 13 - 24th or so, 2012.

It's would be safer if someone else could come with me so I just wanted to toss this out there in case there's another adventurous soul out there that would be interested.

Just wondering if you had done any research on the best way to get there?

I was trying to find flights from Calgary to Greenland (SFJ and UAK) but couldn't find any.

I have a feeling those search engines don't pick up Air Greenland flights.

I think SAS flys from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq as well though.

Most flights in are from Copenhagen but I've heard of flights from Rejkavik as well (just haven't found them). I'm sure they'll be pricey, but it's a once in a lifetime experience!

When were you thinking of going?



I was in Nunavut last summer (work) and it was definitely a unique experience. Would love to go up further, but I am sure thats still a ways away.

Air Iceland flies seasonally from Rejkavik to Nuuk. There's talks in the works for Air Greenland flights between Iqaluit and Nuuk (Canadian North flies Calgary->Iqaluit), but it's going at a snails pace. Might be open by the time you want to go?

Thanks, I'll have to check that out. It may work out cheaper to fly to Nuuk and then catch a couple AG flights - Nuuk to Kangerlussuaq and then Sisimiut - Nuuk. I've been wanting to check out Iceland as well so maybe I could tag on a few days there.

I'm reviving this post and hoping to hike the trail Sept. 13 to 24th or so this year. It's not 100%, but I'm in the early planning stages. If anyone is interested, drop me a PM.
