Suncor to reassess Fort Hills mine

Suncor Energy Inc. is completely reworking the proposed Fort Hills oil sands mine, and won't discuss timing on the project's construction until at least next year.

The company will also lay off another 1,000 people this year as it works to wring out extra profit following its merger with Petro-Canada, Suncor investor relations vice-president John Rogers told a BMO Capital Markets conference in London Tuesday.

That will bring the tally of post-merger layoffs to 2,000.

    etc...

Correct me if I'm wrong but the additional 1000 layoffs is getting rid of positions that are essentially in existence after the merge are they not?

Trimming excess positions to get rid of duplicates?

Yea no doubt, feel sorry for next 1000 people. Getting a related job in that industry is really tough right now.

Imperial and Encana are still moving ahead though.
    The Kearl project is huge.
