How to quiet an exhaust

Hey, i have a car that needs to pass an out of province inspection. the exhaust is pretty loud and i was wondering if you could silence it for the safety by stuffing steel wool down the exhaust tip.. is this true?

Probably a big exhaust, a potato might be better. In extreme cases larger melons have been known to do the trick. Be sure to remove it afterward though, as it will attract small animals which will want to take up shelter in the cavernous exhaust.

But seriously, if the exhaust is too loud just remove it.

psst...silencers can be purchased on ebay and might do the trick

Theres probably another reason why your exhaust is loud... what if its bypassing the muffler somehow and escaping out the exhaust pipe between the header-cat or cat-muffler.

I've always wondered if there are any laws, be it provincial, municipal by-law, etc..., pertaining to exhaust noise? (e.g., max of 100db or you're impounded, etc...)

Of course not; if I did, I wouldn't run straight pipes on every V8 I own

Still, I am curious, for curiosities sake, if the worst Alberta/Calgary has is just the general disturbing the peace catchall.

he has quiet the problem here... try and hammer the edges of the tip into a smaller shape, should quite it down quit a bit.

You should clarify if its leaking or aftermarket, i'll assume aftermarket, this is your best/cheapest solution:
