    Default CPS Speed Traps

Does anyone know how the CPS set up their speed traps? Do they just set up where ever they want in their district or do they have certain spots where they are to set up?

K what i meant was is the location of the speed trap up to an individual officer's discretion? or do they have set locations assigned by some superior??

whats soo hard to comprehend here? Perhaps there's a new trouble spot in the district somewhere, soo a superior tells an officer to go sit there. OR an officer in a district if not told by his superior to go sit somewhere, chooses his own spot.

    Use some logic here perhaps?

Sorry I guess I failed to use logic in realising that people can't put 1 and 1 together.

Very common spot... right at the entrance to Midfield trailer park... they bust everyone racing up the hill.

Beddington Blvd... heading EB between Centre St & 4 St NE... they are always sitting at Huntington Road nabbing people.

Calm down buddy, I knew what he meant. I was just asking a retorical question because if he has insight into how the system works he could have offered a little more information about how exactly they decide when and where to set up speed traps.

Personally I would still like to know in more detail how it works, so if any of the officers on this forum care to join in that'd be sweet. (or allroc, if you're capable of saying anything other than "yes")

i doubt your gonna have any CPS members telling you how/where they setup speed traps.

its not much of a trap if they tell you how and where its set.

If you live in the neighborhood, it's pretty easy to observe all the common trap spots.

    Common sense really.

I can offer this insight. I have only had a couple speeding tickets in over 30 years of somewhat spirited driving and neither was from a speed 'trap' but from mobile units.

.. a blind corner or hilltop - slow down - not only because you may get a ticket but it makes you a safer driver.

If there is a stretch with a lot of parked cars (ogden road for example) there is a good chance there will be a trap somewhere.

Intersections ... slow down again ... safety.

Playground zones School zones - speed here and you are a complete idiot just don't.

End of the month - slow down. Cops deny quotas but I promise you will see more traps at month end.

A nice day after two - three weeks of miserable weather - look out.

There are 'fishing holes' places where cops love to set up and they pretty much follow the rules above.

In the end though speeding really isn't going to get you to where you want to go much faster. Just leave earlier slow down and live longer - the more time you have to get to your destination, the less stress you will be under.

In response to community needs identified through statistical analysis, collisions, and citizen concerns during the month, Photo Radar will continue to target Deerfoot Trail (north and south), as well as the communities of Varsity, Southwood and Braeside.

Photo Radar will continue to target:

    * other high speed high volume roadways
    * construction

    within the city.

The Intersection Safety Cameras will be deployed at 47 of 47 intersections throughout the city, monitoring motorists who fail to stop for red lights. Drive carefully as there is snow in the forecast and roadways can be extremely treacherous due to icy conditions.
