Default Deerfoot closed again last night

Heading south out of airdrie last night around 9pm a cop came up behind me with the lights on, I knew my radar didnt pick anything up, but he passed by... So sitting in traffic for about an hour I get to the front and see they have deerfoot totally closed heading south, and were directing traffic off one of the ramps (didnt pay attention to which one)

Where is this 'city beat' thing I always see, is it open to view by the public?

I was stuck in it - everyone heading SB was forced to take highway 566. I was stuck for ~30 minutes - from 9:45-10:15.

I didn't expect anything on the city newsroom (fka citybeat) site because it happened outside of the city limits.

I was there and heard that a pedestrian was hit, yes i know sounds retarded but thats what the radio said. I was at crossiron and walked down and it did look like there was something body-like on the road

Isn't there signs before Canmore "Watch out for Native Pedestrians on Highway" or something? Maybe CI needs one.. "Watch out for people from the North East on Highway"

    Man killed on QEII

RCMP are still trying to figure out what led to a man being struck and killed on the QEII north of Calgary Saturday night.

It happened in the southbound lanes of the QEII near the Cross Iron Mills Mall just after 7 p.m.

RCMP say the victim's vehicle was stopped on the side of the highway.

Investigators believe the man was attempting to cross the lanes when he was hit by at least one vehicle.

Southbound QEII was closed for about two hours.

... no, I think they've pretty well figured it out.

The odds of someone making it across 6 lanes of 110 km/h + traffic on a heavy volume expressway is pretty slim...

Please have respect for the family. This man was a wonderful family man who tryed to get to a payphone after his tire had blown. Some of the comments posted are very inconsiderate and you should be ashamed! Sorry that it took up a half hour of your life while someone layed there dying. You should show some compassion and find out the situation before name calling and assuming there was not a good reason to cross. You didn't know him like we did. His beautiful wife and childern will miss him dearly. I hope this never happens to any of you but if it did the last thing you would want to read on a forum is your dad being called an idiot because he tried to get help. Shame on you.

Isn't it only 3 lanes going each way divided by a generous ditch in the middle and ample shoulders on both sides? I'm fairly certain this is about the same difficulty as waiting for a WALK signal at an intersection.

If you get hit and killed crossing 3 lanes all going in the same direction on a mile long straight away there is definitely something else at play ie Alcohol, Stupidity, Darwin etc..

    Yeah, that's what I meant. 3 + 3 = 6.

Of course, but getting struck and killed would indicate that warnings were not heeded, for whatever reason.

For sure. With the speed of the traffic varied between the three lanes on each side and the sheer volume on that road, there's very little time to react and change course should you venture across at the wrong time.
