sil 080 is a JDM 180, isen't it?? It has that ugly, mean looking front end with the projector lights
Sileighty has the front of a Silvia and the rear of a 180sx. There's also one with a 180 front and a Silvia rear...can't remember the name but it's still a play on the names of the two cars.
any performance differance? i take it the 180 uses the CA, and the sil 080 uses the SR?

K,.. i'm lost now.
Fuck can someone informed reply to this before everyone gets all confused!!! Nismos14, hollywood, where are you!!!!!!!
180sx is pretty much a JDM 240sx, the same fastback body shape as the 240sx. They had some different motors than us tho, Ca18det's in the early ones, and SR20DET's later.
Sil80's are the front end from a Silvia (rectangular fixed headlights) on a 180SX (fastback) body.
Bought not built!
S13 silvia Coupe: (and a lovely one at that)
180SX:

Bought not built!
The other one you are thinkin of is a OneVia...
OneVia is kinda like our 240SX coupe. Popup headlights on a coupe (silvia) backend.
Sil80 is what Kevie said.
180SX is basically our 240SX fastback but with a nicer taillights and better engine etc.
All in all, these different names for the cars are what our 240SX coupe and fastback models look like now. With the exception of the actual Silvia front end we never got. Like the pictures above. So we have no "sil80" technically.
Confused? I think i am too

i remember reading this on some nissan forum... the sil-80 conversion became popular after people began damaging their 180sx front ends drifting or racing or whatever, and the silvia front ends were cheaper at the time so the sil80 was born. nissan actually made a production sil80 as well i believe, but not too many.
Built not Bought.

200sx turbo also had the ca18det i think. Another forgotton but fun car, rather have this then a corolla as it is factory turbo. Rare
I have a 1988 Nissan Silvia K coming into the country soon, check out my webpage, link located in my sig. for more info on it...
And 88-90 they (sil80, silvia, and 180sx) used ca18det's and the later years switched to the SR20det's....
Sorry, I'm tired tonight so I don't want to type more...

dood.... such misinformation
180SXs are essentially the same body style as our 240SX bodies that we have here in N.A.; the difference extends to both names and the internal organs of the vehicles. the 240SX runs a 2.4L engine hence its name, the 180SX ran a 1.8L engine originally but changed to a 2.0L but retained its 180SX name just for recognition sake.180SX is basically our 240SX fastback but with a nicer taillights and better engine etc.
dunno if anyone knows this, but there were three different 180SX models:
1989-1990; the 180SX's body was similar to our 89-90 240SX bodies. its engine was the CA18DE(T) rated at 170hp or wut not.. this was the "zenki" model
1991-1994; the 180SX's body is similar to our 91-94 bodies (although the 94 we got here was a convertible); the engine in it was the SR20DE(T) redtop; 220hp i think... it's been a while, i forgot. this is the "chouki" model
1994-1997; the last of the 180SXs, we never received any of these in North America. They ran the blacktop SR20 with the same amount of hp i think and had "the nicer taillights" that NismoS14 was referring to.. and they ARE nicer
this is the "kouki" model
------
180SX spin-offs:
SILEIGHTY = S13front/180SX rear
the sileighty was originally created by drifters who busted up their 180s and couldn't afford to replace their fliplight frontends so they opted for the more cheaper S13 frontend, (essentially a bolt-on affair); Nissan caught on to this and made a limited run of factory sileighties and made some good cash off of that.
ONEVIA = 180SX front/S13 rear
So nissan thought "since we did the sileighty, let's work backwards!" and they built the onevia... essentially OUR 240SX coupe here in North America (just w/o the SR20)
the S12 200SX ran the CA18E(T) motor; fun car mebbe.... but from what most of the ppl i've talked to about this car, it's more unstable than an AE86's chassis is.... prone to flexing waaaaaay too much.200sx turbo also had the ca18det i think. Another forgotton but fun car, rather have this then a corolla as it is factory turbo. Rare

so to answer your initial question finboy, a 180SX is the japanese body model of our 240SX fastbacks that we have here with a different heart for an engine - and this is the large difference between the two.
Nissan 200sx is the European model IMO?! (I don't look much in Europe). There is an article about the 200sx (and they even mention "it's called the 180sx in japan, but 200sx here") Kind of neat.... Too bad we all didn't get the same cool cars and aprts.
Dude above is pretty much right though.

when i was in Australia the newer silvia's (s15) were badged as 200sx.
The 200SX that came with a CA is an S12. The generation before the S13(89-93) 240SX's. However it came with a SOHC, CA18ET, rated at just over 100hp.
200SX can be somewhat of a misnomer; the S12 was a 200SX, and the S13 and S14 was globally referred to as the "200SX" outside of Japan due to the 2.0L engine;Originally posted by redbaron303

in Europe, I recall the 180SX never received the CA18 and was called the 200SX fastback there... last i checked anyways.

I found that out about the 180sx being called the 200sx in Europe a while ago... I happened to be reading "Japanese Performance" a uk publication from august 03 and there's a killer 200sx in there and they make reference to exactly what you just said

alright i have read way to many definitions that are wrong. so here:
zenki 180sx (1989 - 1990) came with the ca18det and looks like our 89-90 240sx except they have the 180sx garnish and the windows.
chuki 180sx (1991-1993) came with the red top sr20det and has the same front bumper as our 91-93 240sx and it also came with side skirts with certain trims. they changed the seats by adding a head rest that is ajustable.
kouki (aka type - x) (1994 - 1998 i believe) came with the blacktop sr20det than thay changed the front bumper again and added side skirts and a rear lip. they also changed the spoiler to one thats similar to the s15 silvia spoiler. they also changed the seats to ones that were produced by bride.
than when it comes to sileights they are any of the 180sx's with a front edd by any of the silvias (s12,s13,s14, s14.5,s15)
