Default weird question about stolen car...

So this fall my girlfriend's aunt gave me an old beater which ended up being such a beater that I decided against driving it. I left it parked in the street but it was still plated.

Apparantly last night it got stolen and dumped in vegreville (*spelling) and my gf's aunt got a 900$ bill from impound. How is this possible???

We got told where the car got found and was obviously stolen and we get slapped with a 900$ fee???

someone has to pay the bill for the towing and impound fees. As the registered owner, your GF's Aunt got the bill as they are responsible for it, regardless of the circumstances.

$900 tow fee + storage fee at the lot?

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

I think the impound lot runs the vin number on the car and your aunt showed up as the last registered owner. last registered owner is responsible for any impound fees and or towing fees, same thing happened to me when I sold my winter beater to some guy and he didnt bother registering the car and the car got towed and impounded and I ended up with a $700 bill. Thank god I got a bill of sale stating that it wasnt my car anymore and it was sold to the person on the bill of sale and they went after him for the charges.

I had a old beater car that was registered in my name. I gave it away, and the person i gave it to left unregistered and uninsured. Ended up in the impound. Impound called me asked me if it was still my car. I told them no, never had to pay a dime. Did not ask for bill of sale, or any other kind of proof.

\sorry going to redo math, i will tell you why in a min.
i didnt read the vegreville part very well, anyways, thats 388km to the impound at 2.10 a km, plus 83.50 for the tow. plus gst. your insurance will cover this if you have theft, if not, leave it at the impound and it will go to auction, not sure on if it doesn't sell, but i believe you are held liable for the impound fees if it does not sell at auction.

If the car was reported stolen, most insurance should cover that fee.

If it wasn't insured, or the car isn't even worth $900, just give them the car... you probably don't want it back after some crackheads have been using it for God knows what.

It only got stolen last night??......then there is NO WAY you have a $900 tow bill.

Did you call the Police when you discovered vehicle stolen?, did you inform insurance company?

Dunno just going on second hand information from my gf. But as far as their family is concerned they don't expect me to pay it because she told me the car was good to go but it was pissing oil all over the road.

So it wouldn't of passed an inspection so I didn't bother fixing it and decided to once again winter my acura.

So as far as I'm concerned I don't have to pay so I don't care.

Exactly my thoughts...now they're disposing of it for you...

No sense in paying 900 to get back a garbage car.
