Downtown stinks this morning. You could almost taste the stink.

Hopefully no one was hurt.

The Calgary Fire Department is on the scene of a major building fire in the heart of Chinatown.
The fire broke out around 5am in the 200 block of Centre Street, just south of the Centre Street Bridge.
It's a two storey building with a restaurant and other retail and office space.
QR77 reporter Sheila Johnstone was given a surgical mask at the scene because the smoke is so thick.
There is confusion among those evacuated from a neighbouring apartment building as few of the residents speak English.
The Centre Street Bridge has been closed in both directions as a result.
One witness said this building has caught fire before - at least three times in the last five years or so.

My bus was diverted from centre street to Edmonton Trail because of this.

Centre street is closed too. Bus is detouring thru Edmonton trail and it is a stand-still

Yeah.. I'm glad I chose to work from home this morning. The commute was a lot shorter.. like 10 minutes from bed to desk, including making tea.

That is the building with the Swarma place is it not? Didn't they just open again from having a fire a couple years ago?

Yea I think it was Bobby Chao's that got burnt down last time. It remained vacant until another place moved in a few months ago and now it's up in flames again...

Fishy. I think someone is trying to torch a dead business for insurance money. The fire department already responded to something at the same location on Friday. Looks like they came back to finish the job. The old Bobby Chao spot is taken over by Lips Karaoke bar.

Feel bad for the swarma place. He just got all brand new equipments.
