has anyone tried this yet?
if you mean jailbreaking. I've been doing it for several months. If you mean the newer '0verflow' related stuff- can't be bothered-everything I need the PS3 to do works with the JB on the 3.41 firmwareOriginally posted by desi112

yah see thats awesome that you stuck with 3.41 coz thank god they finally got 3.55 freed
I haven't really paid attention to the new stuff, but the big difference should be that you don't need a JB device to do it (unless you need one to help write the FW- like I say, I haven't really kept up to how it works).
edit-did a little quick research- no JB device required for the new custom firmwares- just a USB stick.
another edit- figured I should try the new one of the hacked 3.55 firmwares (I'm likely to have people asking me to do it for them lol).
It works, but not as well as the old JB device did on 3.41. Lots of freezeups. Have to wait for the backup managers to get up to speed I guess.

Online works fine for now but Sony will probably ban soon.
is there a quick method to turn the JB on and off.Originally posted by beecue

I mean to say, can you turn it off for online play (games which are bought) and turn it on to play single player?
No you have switch firmwares. I read everything is logged and sent to Sony so it wouldn't matter if you switched.
DOes that include if you have only JB the machine?Originally posted by beecue

I.e. I want to do it for Emulators, not playing backups...
Yeah I think so because it would log that you ran an emulator. They might be able to detect that it's not the official firmware too. I guess we will see if a ban happens.
there's a program you can run that will erase your log so that Sony can't see what you've been running.
But like beecue said, they may be able to detect the CFW (or maybe even the programs that are installed by it, like the .pkg installer).
btw, between 3 different backup managers I've got it running pretty stable. Learned that I have to run a level 2 hack program every time to keep stuff happy (although I'm pretty sure they said it was built into the FW so it wouldn't need it).
edit- maybe this will cause the people who made the jailbreak devices to finally update them to the 3.55 firmware- at least then you can boot without it and not be jailbroken (so there would still be a need for them-as of now, sales won't be too good )
