Hi all! I'm back! Sorry for not posting for a very long time, I was studying at college, with no car at my disposal, so I don't really have any questions with my car!
Now I got my car back, it's a Proton Wira 1.5 GLi (a Malaysian made car, bought in 2000, petrol-powered, using fuel injection system). The car, I would say, is used in not good conditions, i.e. my sister will drive it to work for only a few km in the morning, then let it bask in the sun for the whole day.
Now it's time for an engine oil change, I'm wondering, which is better: synthetic, semi-synthetic or mineral? I'm planning to go to either semi synthetic or synthetic; I really love my car, I don't mind spending much on it. But I heard issues about it's dangerous to use synthetic oil on a car which uses mineral oil all the while, and I also read about synthetic oil being unable to provide some type of protection which can be provided by mineral oils.
About semi-synthetic, I read that it's the most cost effective, however, I also read about it not as good as their pure mineral or synthetic counterparts.
So... which should I use actually? In my service centres, we normally use Shell engine oils, and the viscosity which I normally use is either 20W 50 or 10 W 50.
Thanks for your guidance and advice!!!
