    Default Bittorent on Mac

I'm having some trouble getting my buddy's torrenting to work. I downloaded bittorrent, got a torrent and it's stuck at 0.0% and doesn't seem to be downloading. It says at the bottom right "checking firewall..." and doesn't do anything. There is no antivirus software I don't think, is there something that Apple incorporates I have to override? Thanks.

check ports on your router. check to see if the firewall is on in osx --> system prefs > security

I'll try the port thing. I initially started with uTorrent but it wouldn't open for some reason.

utorrent doesnt work on a mac AFAIK.

I use Transmission, forward the port and it works great.

I've had problems with bit torrent on mac going through routers, even with ports open. I just hardline it and skip the router.

hmmm last I looked they were still working on the Alpha.

I would still download Transmission as uTorrent is still a beta and could be causing some of his issues.

I used transmission before utorrent came out. Switched to utorrent for a bit but had some issues at times and so i switched back to transmission which never had any problems.

The built in Xbox streaming in Vuze is handy.

Been using Transmission on Mac for years. Haven't had a single issue. Just make sure you forward your ports properly on your router.

    Transmission works fine for me.

I suspect his problem is that his router isn't set up properly.
