Default DEI 'your valet' remote starter question

    Good day all,
Having a problem with my DEI remote starter. Its the 2 button keypad, no frills. Pressing the #1 button will only flash the park lights, once, then when I press it again, two flashes.
I have tried the toggle switch and get the same results. I checked the pin under the hood and that is intact as well. I read where disconnecting the negative battery terminal may reset the system. Don't know if this will help or not.

If you have had this problem or have a solution, it would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks
    Craig

you didn't explain your problem very well, does it not start? is that the problem? button one is for the keyless entry when you see one flash that locks the doors, when you see two flashes that unlocks the doors, i assume you don't have power locks thats why you didn't know this, to start you usually have to press and hold button 1 and 2 together for 1 sec.

I appreciate your reply and you're right, I left out the part indicating that the van would not start. My powerlocks were left on the original keyless entry pad with the DEI used separately. AS I pressed both buttons, all I would get was the flashing lights.
FOr anyone having this problem, disconnecting the negative terminal for 10 minutes did the trick. ***For anyone with theft deterant stereos, be sure you have your reset code as this can lock up radio/stereo on some models >>>>

    Default DEI Remote start question

HELP? Saw an old post on a DEI remote start question and hoped someone could solve my dilemma. I have a DEI keyless 2 button remote with an added I assume DEI remote starter.(both 5 y/o) Recently, both of my remotes went down and I've had to find some used remotes off ebay. Unfortunately, I only have the directions for the keyless entry. I had it set up so I would hit button 1 to lock(1flash) and hit it again to unlock(2flash). Button 2 could be held down and that would start the truck. If I hit it while running it would kill the ignition.
How do I reprogram button 2 to get the remote start to work again? Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Usually DEI remote starters are set up to start by pushing both buttons together. Button 2 alone would usually pop the trunk (if installed). Can you get the unit number and date of manufacture off the back? Are your remotes red or green lights?
When the vehicle is running, pushing the button again would shut it off, if that is what you meant.

    Hope this helps,
    Gary

    Gary,
The remotes flash red. Originally I had the keyless entry. Then decided I wanted the Remote start. When added they said they would use a module to add to the keyless which would allow me to use the lazy start. Since the install I have started the vehicle by holding down the 2nd button. If I held it down once running it would shut it down. There is nothing else on the 2nd button. The 1 button would lock and unlock and that was it. The doors will auto lock and unlock and trigger the dome light.I'll have to pull panels to get a number. The manual says Your Valet 710 series....?

The 2 button is the channel 2 output, which should send a pulse to the remote starter to cycle it. Usually you have to hold it for 2 seconds to send the signal.
If the locks work, re-programming should not be necessary.
If your lock and unlock still work, check the on/off switch for the remote starter under the dash, or possibly the hood switch is grounded.

The directions with this keyless entry say you can set it up to: chann 1 lock, chann 2 lock. It also says it has an option to do a trunk pop with chann 2. I believe when they did the install they wanted to utilize the same keyless entry so they programmed chann 1 to do the lock/unlock and turned channel 2 into the trunk pop/remote starter. I do know it is a programming issue. My backup remote did start the engine with no problems. Unfortunately, the directions don't say anything about how to program the trunk pop option. This is a 710T DEI unit. Not sure what the remote module is. Its tucked up way up into the dash. Thanks for the help

On the back of the keyless entry should be a date stamped in the plastic. It looks like a round clock. The programming is different depending on the date. I have programming guides available. Let me know and I can e-mail it to you.

    Default programming info

We had two remotes and both work fine except one of the remotes key chain housing is broken and we've tried everything to remedy it to no avail. Anyway, I purchased an identical replacement and want to know how to program it so it will be the same as the original. Thanks.

    Question remote car starter question

Does anyone know how to re-set the code on my automatic car starter. It is pretty old, and it does start the car, but it only locks and unlocks the DRIVERS door instead of all 4 doors, like it used to. I think I pushed some crazy buttons and it just does the driver side door now. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Penny

    Hi Penny,
There is no way you can set the remote to unlock only the driver door by just pushing buttons on the remote.

Does you car have factory power door locks, as in a switch to lock and unlock the doors.
If it does , do all the doors unlock and lock with that switch?

If it does not have a switch then there may be an aftermarket keyless module under the dash that is malfunctioning.

    Default darn door locks

Thank you so much for replying--I'm sort of a forum virgin! Anyway, yes, it has factory installed door locks that lock (all 4 doors) after you start the car and unlock when you shut it off. Now NOTHING works to lock/unlock the other 3 doors. Not the clicker (aka car starter) nor do they do it by themselves. ONLY the driver door behaves like it should. Maybe a fuse????

From the description it sounds like the doorlock system was installed aftermarket. There should be a module in the drivers kick panel or under the dash. A fuse could be the problem.
They usually work in conjucntion with the driver door. When the driver door unlocks, it unlocks all the doors, same with lock.

You can also follow the wires from the remote starter lock and unlock wires to this unit, to find it.

    Hey Strugari,

Can you help me with my "DEI Valet (red LED) FCC: EZ50DEI490
RPN491" problem, which is similar to "twinspapa"?

Except my RPN491 xmitter just flashes rapidly when button/s is/are pushed. The xmitter is solely used to start/stop my GMC trucks' engine & nothing else. I use the GMC remote for the doors & hatchback.

It all started when I changed the +, corroded battery cable to the fuse box. Took off the starter cable @ the starter, but too late didnt need to, other end still functional. If you are wondering, yes, their are 2 cables to the + terminal. 1 for fuse box & 1 for starter.
Anyway, when reassembled the xmitter just flashed rapidly, when usually a solid red light, to start the engine.

    thanx,

    Letsride

Make sure the on/off switch is on.

Check the power wires at the remote starter for 12V. There should be 2 wires going in with 30amp fuses to each.
Sometimes when the battery is disconnected and reconnected the fuse fails.
Also check the hood switch to make sure it is working properly.

These are just a few things to check first.
