    Well N00b.
Sorry to hear. Your moms insurance will probably charge Comprehensive and she will have to pay a deductible.

Can your mom give me a couple free burgers?

Actually hit & run will fall under her collision coverage. Usually the deductible for that starts at $500 although there are still a few $250's left hanging around.

Oh you can buy a $100 deductible if you want but you're pissing away money hand over fist.

If you're paying a deductible for a hit and run, you're with the wrong insurance company.

But I need to address the fact that you're referring to "a" McDonald's on a street that's about 20 kilometres long. And worse than that, it's in the hood. Do you know how many McDonald's are probably on 68th Street?

Deductible applies on all hit & runs simply because there isn't anyone to backcharge the claim to.

Not with Meloche-Monnex. I have no deductible for hit and run.

It's not that the deductible doesn't apply, it's that you have qualified for MM's $0 deductible on collision losses. However I think (I'm not positive) that once you use the $0 deductible once it goes back to a standard $500. The claim still falls under collision and you policy's deductible applies. In your case it just happens to be $0.00.

Under the standard automobile policy there must be a deductible for anything other than total theft of the vehicle. Like Masked Bandit states it is likely a 'customer service' add on offered by that particular company. Be thankful you have to pay nothing.

Do keep in mind however if the other party is ever found and proven to have caused the damage you can recover your deductible.

    Yep.
I always thought that hit&run falls under comprehensive but comprehensive will only cover natural disaster.

collision is "collision with an object or the surface of the road or upset"

comprehensive is "everything else except things specifically excluded in the policy"

    Now you know.
