Default New Toyota FT-86 pics and info. Production version rumored to be at Geneva autoshow!

    from FT86club.

Cool interview with the car's senior designer. Also there's rumors that the production FT-86 will make its appearance at Geneva! Best part is that the redesign rumors appear to be false

There is no way that the car will come looking exactly like that. The interior will most likely have the biggest change. The zippers will most likely not stay, and the seats well almost definitely be watered down.

I can see though, most of the exterior staying the way it is, save for some minor change in the front to add legal reflectors and such, and maybe some smaller brakes.

If it is left EXACTLY how the concept looked, then it would cost WAY more than planned.

The zippers are awesome, it would make swapping to an aftermarket suede dash cover super easy.

Too bad that they couldn't be original on their styling. Looks like a baby R35 GTR.

Except for the part where it doesn't look like a bloody elephant placenta.

Elephant placenta or not it's obvious they copied the GTR lines - check out the roof line. How bad is it that they couldn't even come up with an original design?

Great news! Chances are that it may be present at the New York auto-show the following month.

seems like a fail car to me.

What will make it special, claims Toyota, is the ultra-light kerb weight, which may be as low as 1250kg in production trim, its purity of response, its handling agility and the fact it will have a proper limited slip differential

on what planet does ultra-lightweight = 1250kg? and that seems like a best case scenerio, and it will likely weigh more. thats going to be one slow and outclassed car if it has any less then 250hp, and rumours had it it will have 155hp O_o.

Find another rwd sports coupe currently available for sale that weighs 1250kg or less.

2700lbs for a car that will still have AC, heated seats, power windows, premium sound system and every other consumer desire in this day and age is a light car.. even in the mid 90's 2500-2700lbs was average and or a lighter car.. haha..

    SRT4- 3000lbs
    STI - 3300lbs
    370z - 3300lbs
    evo 10 - 3600lbs..

Face it Sport oriented cars or what is left of them at least are no longer LIGHT WEIGHT lol..

    Elise/Exige 725 kgs
    Miata 1095 kgs
    Tiburon 1150 kgs

Even Toyota made a lighter car (Mr2 Spyder @ 980 kgs)
The S2000 was around the 1250 kg mark

It is true that cars today weigh more than 10 years ago though. I believe it's due to the additional safety features and electronics.

Light weight is for pussies. YOU NEED MORE POWER CAPTAIN!

Also very interested in this, hopefully the marketing department does not fuck it up.

And if a Supercharged/Turbo version comes out that would make the market super happy.

If anything it looks like an evora not a gt-r
That is a fair weight though with all of the safety stuff they have to put in with all of the regulations. My car is like a 1600kg coupe so it is still going to be very nimble, and a little FI never hurt anyone.

    as soloracer said:

elise, miata, tiburon, mr-s, s2k are some recent and current cars that weigh similar or far far less. you want a coupe too, how about a rx8, that weighs 1300kg, and is known to be slow, and yet has almost 100hp more then this thing is projected to have.

you mention the 370z. its actually 32xx pounds. 400 pounds more then this best case scenerio, since they only said this 'may' be as low as 2750pounds, yet the 370z has over twice the hp this thing is projected to have and will absolutely kill this car around a track, and yet you can pick one of those up for 40g msrp. while i bet you this FT-86 ends up more then 30g in canada for a base since UK projections state it'll start around 21000 pounds.

u can look at the mid 90s too, check out a 10 year old sti. ac, power options, fogs, 4 doors, etc etc, the same engine this thing has with more crap hanging off it (turbo, IC, etc) and AWD on top of all that. 2800 pounds roughly, and 300hp.

hell, a base rsx weighed roughly 2700 pounds, and had 160hp, and that wasn't quick in 2002, let alone 2012.

    even look at the lotus..

    1987kg + 189hp = 4.9sec 0-60
    1987kg + 218hp = 4.3sec 0-60
    roughly 10.5kg/1hp

    should be interesting...

I thought there was a release from Toyota not too long ago that they were completely ditching this design in favour of something totally different? Or were they just stirring the pot a bit...
You have a couple of photos that are great... you must be very good at photoshop!
