    Default sr20det clutch fan delete?

hey just wondering what kind of set ups you guys have out there,

i've seen electrical fans and i've seen no fans!!

just wondering what i need to run no fans, cars only boosting 13psi and s14 t28 turbo...not sure if that makes a differance.... wondering if i can run no fans by just getting a three core koyo rad? or will i still need electrical fans.

    thanks

E-fans are pointless. The stock clutch fan with a good shroud will outperform them, and you dont free up parasitic loss because any energy that is saved by not spinning a large clutch fan will just be used to spin up the alternator to power your e-fans.

AS far as no fans are concerned =

No fan is only ok if you're only on highway. Sit in idle or traffic for a bit and watch that temperature rise like crazy in the summer.
Someday we may need to activate the halo structure off Deerfoot and destroy the North East.

The clutch fan will always outperform an electric. They push ALOT of cfm. Are you REALLY hurting to have an extra 3 hp? put 1 more psi of boost into it..............

i swear by the stock fan and shroud, fuck the electric fans IMO.

Ive had no problems with my electric set up. They only come on when needed and have an adjustable thermostat. Cleaner, quieter and more space underhood.

I'm not desperate for extra horse just curious what's better bs the other... And if there is even a differance. I think I'm prolly going to stick with the stock clutch fan... Just efficient cooling is what I'm after

I swear by it, ive made over 300 hp on the stock fan, in fact, coupled with my koyo rad, on a warm summer day, im lucky if my car gets over 68 degrees.

after purchasing my custom electric set up i was convinced to just stick with my stock belt fan... it left me with this.

shroud was custom made by a sheet metal shop and snaps right into a koyo radiator. (Looks flat in the picture but its actually about 2-3 inches deep. two 12 inch fans

if you go the electric route shoot me a PM. owned it for a year and a half and it has still yet to see the road. im sure it would look incredibly clean

I run the stock clutch fan, a koyo rad w/o a shroud.
Tracked it when it hit 30ish degrees on Sept 15th, worked fantastic.
Ill be keeping it for a long time, I dont care how bad it looks.

I have electric fans ran off an Altima,
There's been tests w/ fan brands that measure CFM.

    Here's an example.
    My setup is slightly different.
I have 3 speeds available and I only use the
low speed since the efficiency is high.

What's more important is how well sealed the rad is to the fan
    housing.

Big fans w/ huge gaps along side the rad leaves lower
flow, less efficiency. The standard fan clutch w/ shroud
is an easy way to max flow unless you have no shroud, then
    the fan clutch is useless.

ive been running a 3.8L taurus fan (they move alot of air) on my SR with koyo rad swithching the low speed with a FAL auto switch, and a manual switch for the high mode for track days or rapid cooldown when needed.

ive recently put in an autronic that switches both high and low speeds as needed off an coolant temp sensor input.

i like it way better than the clutch fan as it doesnt run that often on regular round town driving, why have a fan on 100% of the time? sure when its running its using the same power the mechanical does, but its not running that often.

you can get those 3.8 taurus fans for dirt cheap at a pick and pull and a FAL controler is 50$ or so, with a bit of time put in you can do it all for cheap.

ive been running this at 300whp and 18psi all last summer and high mode maybe came on once

Brand new OEM SR20DET shroud is $40 + shipping from the nismo shop (west covina nissan in cali, they stock a lot of jdm oem parts). Cover up that fan and add some extra cooling.

My plan is a Koyo N-Flow rad (just recently released) with the stock clutch fan + new oem shroud.

when you are driving around, the stock fan isnt always on and engaged. It has goop inside the clutch that gets hard when it gets hot and engages the fan, and vice versa when its cold it barely spins, you could stop it with your hand (please dont try)

and cjay^ i dont know how fast you can get the shroud from that other place, but Brasso can order it for you, same price, itll just take 4-6 weeks thats all.

Fair enough. Any idea how you are going to mount it to the rad when you do get around to doing it? are there tabs on the shroud? or is it more a matter of just using zip ties?
