Default Best place to live Calgary?

My buddy and I were talking about this earlier today, so maybe you guys can give better answers. Basically, we were saying how that it was the SW for work, leisure, entertainment and pretty much everything else. So those of you that do or don't live in SW do you agree or disagree?

I disagree. Best place to live is in the SE ghetto. Its like a real life Grand Theft Auto game in front of your very eyes. Hookers on every corner, ethnic restaurants that are dirty but good, cop stations pretty close.

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

If you can afford it, SW area is by far the nicest and most convenient IMO. St. Moritz, Aspen Hills, Springbank Hill, Discovery Ridge, close to everything, beautiful views, and Westhills has every store you need a few minutes away, Chinook's 10 minutes away, and there's a Safeway even closer to Aspen Hills now and looks like that's gonna grow into even more convenient shopping.

^ I'm very close (Erin Woods) and I concur with DJ rice.

Between HAWC flybys every few hours, gas station hold ups, parked stolen cars everywhere - its a blast!

I live in Sandstone (NW)... love it here. It's totally quiet, virtually no crime other than the one bus shelter glass getting smashed out every so often... the people in the area are pretty decent.

It's also a great location... it's minutes from Deerfoot Trail, Centre St, 14 St NW, etc... lots of amenities around here too.

If I ever moved elsewhere in Calgary, it wouldn't be far from Sandstone... maybe Beddington or Macewan... that's about it!

    Reppin the South..

Mckenzie Towne, is my personal favourite, its a bit out if you don't have friends in the area, but you literally have everything you need within close vicinity.

its funny alot of ppl classify the SE as the ghetto, i dont see douglasdale/mckenzie falling into that category at all.. i guess ppl tend to forget that the community exists and is part of the SE quadrant, that said i enjoy it down here. fast access to the highway and with southtrail getting bigger and more populated every year and about a 5-10 min drive to deerfoot meadows its pretty convenient imo, and if theres nothing avail at south trail, 5-10 mins to shawnessy stripmall via 22x.

edit: this goes for other SE communities like lake bonavista, chaparral, cranston, parkland, deerridge, diamond cove, willowpark, sundance etc

SE is not just gdamned dover, ogden and erin woods..

Snobby bastard I'm guessing, you mind sir is a complete dump.
Lived in the N.E. and N.W. both are decent? Obviously in the SW its going to be nice with the higher incomes? This thread is kind of a stupid question? I think though neighbors have a huge deal to do with what you think of the place. I've had some horrible neighbors and hated it, but some good onces and loved the same house I previously hated.

best area in calgary is deff the SW followed by the NW....IMO best area in the SW is upper mount royal, ur a walk away from downtown, established neighberhood, property values are probably some of the most secure in calgary

EDIT: there is some nice pockets in the NE and SE, but i wouldnt consider the majority of it an area thats nice

i think more important than N, S, W, and E is the inner core, id rather live in the inner part of NE, or SE, than in the boonies of SW, or NW

Yeah right buddy, SW by far.

Spent the last 8 years in Edgemont, Douglas Glen then Cranston.

Now I'm in Aspen and I'm never moving. 10 minutes to downtown, just off 17th ave, groceries and shopping less the 1 minute away, right by COP, huge rec centre with pools, driving range 4 minutes away, LRT is coming in soon and I get all of this while being in a VERY quiet neighbourhood. It feels just like living in Cranston with soooooo much more to offer and soooo much closer to everything.

I also get to see the mountains out of 50% of my windows.
We stopped checking for monsters under our beds when we realized they were inside us.

I live in an older section of the SW. You have the mature trees, houses that are not cookie-cutter replica's of each other, Chinook Centre within walking distance, and downtown is 10 minutes away. Best of all, I've lived here 6 years, and have yet to hear gun shots, or witness any major crime!!

SW, love my area. I've never seen a homeless person, I've seen Moose in the neighbourhood, and deer all the time, plus I'm 3 minutes from glenmore, I can get downtown in 10, the university in 15, even all the way up 16th ave and Sunridge in less than 20, quick access to both Crowchild and Deerfoot makes commuting easy. My neighbourhood is stupid quiet, never a problem with the neighbours and crime isn't really a worry.

There isn't a single house in my area with the same floorplan/layout/look.
