They ride fantastic, have solid drivetrains (other than the ghastly auto on the 328), interior quality is top notch and the ergonomics are well designed.
This type of critical thinking has no place on beyond mkay.

3 series cup holders aren't much better, except instead of digging into thighs it digs into the knee.

3 series's is too small and too far to reach.

If you want to drink in car, you should not buy a BMW.

How did this become about cup holders? I thought this thread was about idiots who drive BMWs and think they are FWD.

For the record I think the 135i is ugly but they are fast and fun to drive. 128i is the poser car. I would guess most 135i drivers overlook the poor looks for the high level of performance in the segment.

Is it me or are BMW interiors starting to look a bit dated? It looks like they are still designing dashboards for the 90's.

The old E36's were the best. My 328i had indents in the glovebox door, that's it.

Z4 isn't bad. They just need better material in the 3s and 1s.

I understand that they want to go for a simple, spartan look. But don't cheap out on the material when you do.

Can't blame the BMW for being utilitarian to the point of having bad cup holders...just use one or two of these bad boys and Whamo!, problem solved:

Don't worry about how tacky they'd look in your shiny beemer, your penny-loafers and tweed jackets are what most of us notice first.

Lol, I was using cupholders as an example of how superficial most of the consumers "wants" are, and that RWD is usually not on that list. Christ, and if you think those cupholders are awful, you should see the ones in MY car. It is the most flimsy piece of shit, and can fit nothing larger than a can. If you have a coffee cup in the upper one, a hard stop is enough to send it flying.

    Enough with the cupholders now..

Everytime I see the 80/20 stat percentage I am always inclined to think it's BS. 80/20 rule works for almost everything

Germans generally fail at cup holders. My Audi has this mechanical linkage system that you have to "service" occasionally to keep it in optimal working condition.

But for the 1 series, imo it's definately an enthusiat / chick car. My mom drives a Z3 3.0 with the M package on it. It may be a bit of a chick car, but on the back roads it handles like a dream with those fat rears gripping around the corners while my life partner and crank "its raining men" on the harmon kardon system.

Anyone that is so self conscious about their sexuality should consider a H3T. Everybody will know the extent of your man hood while you park it infront of your local golds gym.

84% of stats are made up on the spot.

    1-series: Ugly, chick car.
    135i: enthusiast vehicle of DOOM

What? My 135i is RWD? $hit.

    disclaimer: current 135i owner.

For car cupholders the Yaris wins.
One on either side of the dash ...

Plus a bottle holder in each door and two standard holers in the front console. Plus one cupholder in the back of the rear console and bottle holders in the rear doors.... and three glove boxes.

That looks a hell of a lot like the jacket I usually wear. No penny loafers though, sneakers.

I modded my 135i cupholder... Yes you heard right I modded my cupholder.
Heck it comes with 3 cupholders, people (notice the 2 to the right of the e-brake?).

So now instead of that removable 3rd cupholder jabbing into the passengers leg, theres an iPod cradle jabbing into the passengers leg.
Aux input and charges it too.

    BOSS Orange Label, nice jacket.

Back on topic, the next 1-series looks like it's going to lose the sagging body lines, which qould make it much better looking, IMO.
