Singletrack around the city - yes. I mostly ride the city's singletrack stuff on my cross bike. West fish creek gets a bit hairy on 33mm tires, but easier stuff like bowmont and nose hill works well.
One of the most fun trails is out by 12 mile coulee - take a look on trailforks for the trail head. West Fish Creek has some pretty challenging stuff also but I tend to have a difficult time linking up trails.
Once Bragg Creek dries out I'd recommend going to West Bragg, though.
What do you ride for a cross bike? Im definitely going to check out 12 mile coulee soon, i've been scoping out trails on trailforks. I noticed trail forks has nothing in the weaselhead area, which are some of my favorite trails to rip.Originally posted by Penguin_Racecar

Weaselhead is actually off-limits for bikes. I agree though - jackrabbit trail is amazing fun to rip through.
As for cross bikes:
2011 Kona Jake the Snake
2012 Specialized Crux with full SRAM force 1x11 and Stans Iron Cross wheels
And my race bike is a Ridley X-Fire with SRAM force 1x11 and Stans Iron Cross wheels set up tubeless.
Yes, I have a cyclocross problem.
You take these through the blue track on trail forks in 12 mile coulee? Arent they more of onroad bikes?Originally posted by Penguin_Racecar

Can't remember the last time I road 12 mile coulee. The trail is better on something with more tire volume though.
Jake the Snake has road tires and a power meter on it, so that's my "road bike". I also have a Specialized Stumpjumper with rigid fork and drop bars (for bikepacking) and a Kona Big Unit for racing cross country.

Are those 27.5+ tires? They look massive!
Got it last October-ish (after a few weeks of delivery delays). Still, I love it!

holy shit. Best bike.Originally posted by blitz
I honestly don't know if I can tell the difference at the moment, but with the 650b tires it's quite a different beast than anything I've ridden before.
Quite a bit of clearance everywhere, I'll snap some photos with my 700x37 and these 650bx47 for comparison.
As I was searching for used parts for that build, I ended up picking up a 2001 Litespeed Arenberg off Kijiji as a project bike and went a bit nuts on it. Luckily I had a lot of parts laying around to help subsidize the cost. Some acetone took off the old decals.
Dura-ace R9100 shifters/derailleurs/11-30 Cassette
Dura-ace R9000 brakes
Sram Red 53/39 Crankset
Ultegra 6800 Tubeless wheels
Schwalbe One Tubeless tires
FSA Compact Carbon Bars
Easton EC-70 Seatpost
Selle Esse Saddle
Weighs in at 16.76 lbs with cages, but no pedals. I'm not completely happy with the colour match between the saddle and tape, but that's the only thing left to track down for it.

2011 Ibis Mojo SL. Light as a feather and one hell of an enduro bike.
Sick bike zipdoa!! Love the color scheme. How do you like your Santa Cruz?
Picked up a couple JTS's this week to build up a new winter bike.

If I didn't find one, I was gonna wait until I was in the US to order one from Nashbar but I just checked and they're 25% off right now at $90 USD.Originally posted by XylathaneGTR

I'm gonna order one, but if you want one too, we could split shipping. The shipping price is the same whether I order one or two. It'll come out to be about $140 CAD each plus whatever border taxes we get hit with.
Gotta ask... a couple? One for parts or whatOriginally posted by D'z Nutz

It started off with just the complete one in the back for a really good price. Went for a test ride and it was a good fit, shifting was snappy, brakes stopped well, everything looked good except it was a little dirty. No biggie.Originally posted by Brent.ff

Took it home started cleaning it.... and I found out why it was so cheap and why the first guy checking the bike out passed on it: there was a 2" crack along the chainstay behind the chainring that I didn't see and wasn't told about. MOTHER FUCK.
I figured since I was stuck with it, I may as well cannibalize it and move the good parts over to my Dew. Then at least I'd have a compact double with drop bars and STI shifters, which was something I was really missing over the winter, plus I'd still have disc brakes. I could use the saddle and seat post for quick swapping too, since I was riding with a big fat gel saddle to cushion the bumpy ride which isn't needed outside of winter. Anything left over, I could try unloading on Kijiji for next to nothing. Hell, someone might even take the frame for a project or something. All in all, I figured it was an expensive lesson but at least I'd be forced to upgrade some parts I was on the fence about doing anyways and I wouldn't have to run around gathering stuff or wait for things to come in before I could start.
As I was starting to get excited over the idea of the build the next day, someone posted a JTS frame for sale in my size. Sweet!
This week had been pretty busy for me and I hadn't had a chance to really check out the first JTS outside of picking it up and giving it a quick wipe down before tossing it into storage, but once I had I realized the previous owner had upgraded just about everything on this bike. The only things that are stock are the seatpost, bottom bracket, crank arms, and shifters. He even went from the stock 36/46t to 34/50t, which is what I was considering doing anyways. The winter beater is actually going to have better parts than my summer ride
Just need some handlebar tape and a bell and it's good to go!
