    Default Extend structural defect warranty from 5 years to 10 years

    Hi Folks;

    I just moved into a new home with five years structural warranty. Also I can extend this term to 10 years by paying extra $500.

    Do you think it is necessary? Can 10 years warranty make my house more attractive for potential buyers after 5-6 years?

    Any comment and advice will be highly appreciated

    Where did you build?

    Usually all your problems will arise in the first few years.

    Yes an extended warranty is a nice thing,.. but definitely not a deal maker on a home that is over 5 years old.

    I don't know anything about structural warranty, but wouldn't a $500 warranty for 5 extra years on a product that costs say...$300,000 be a damn good deal?

    At that price it seems like a great deal, you should get some documentation that outlines exactly what the coverage will be and make a decision from there.

    I totally avoid extended warranties. But in the case of our new house, it is money VERY well spent.

    I think this would be a great idea but you're going to have look at the insurance and see whats actually covered.

    Most extended warranties are just a bunch of BS to get that extra bit of money out of you at the end of a sale. They don't offer any real value because the amount of hoops you have to jump through to collect on it isn't worth your time.

    As stated above look at what it covers. It is the structure only. That being said if nothing happens in the first 5 years such as craking/shifting i doubt it will happen in the next 5 after that. The insurance company is out to make money so they obviously arent expecting to pay anything out considering it is only 500 dollars. Read reviews on this warrenty and you will quickly see it is very hard to have any claim go through with them.

    That being said most people do not care to read fine print and when they hear warranty they love it. For resale I would get it. If it is for your future security I would not.
