    Yeah, fair enough.

You don't get any sort of interview when you apply for a (R)PAL. I've never heard of a single person having any of their references checked either. Truthfully, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't even run an actual background check on all the applicants to see about criminal offeses.

    Why does that matter?

I don't know of anywhere that I'd use as a template. That said, I don't know the ins and outs of every other countries laws. My point is that it doesn't matter. What we're doing wrong is painfully obvious, so we should probably stop doing that, regardless what Norway, the USA, or Fiji does.

Non of my references got called, nor have I been called about the 7-8 people I've been the reference for.
It is (or was, at least) a bit of a running joke on Gun Nutz how no one's references ever get called.

Not saying it doesn't happened, just saying that from my experience, it seems to be fairly rare.

Depends on how he did it I suppose. Did he "fall on his sword" or did he go out in a blaze of glory?

IMO, there is nothing really we can do. No matter what provisions we put in place, or laws we pass, there will always be idiots that will find ways to fuck things up. It's unfortunate, but reality.

So long as they use the range guns just to kill themselves and not others I'm not really bothered.

Someone said above 'you must have been lucky'

All of my references were called and interviewed and everyone I've talked to about this had theirs called too.

And yes the firearms laws are stupid.

I hate to say I told you so...

    But... I told you so.
Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it interesting.

against what? nobody is liable and the building itself is in no danger. It probably costs more money to insure a construction company.
