Default Montreal for 3 days...what to do?

As a follow up to my other thread about what hostels to stay at, figured I should know what to do in Montreal for 3 days. Conveniently, they have a 3 day transit pass, so I can go as far as the subways do.

    Looking for:
Places to photograph: Maybe not so much random old architecture, rather unique sites or historic buildings. Night scenes.

Places to eat: smoked meat, poutine, etc

    Places that are somewhat touristy

Don't really care for the nightlife. Will be in hostel, so Im sure I can head out with other travellers.

Anything else that is "cant miss"

Keeping in mind that I will be there during the week ( Tues, Wed, Thurs)

    Thnx

For a nice scenry of montreal you can go to summit park. Theres something called the underground city (supossibly the largest) and the BIG orange called "orange julep" quite expensive but worth the experience. OH and one more, the BIODOME is pretty sick

pied du cochon, their canard confit and poutine are very, very good. tabernac. you'll need a reservation here.

la banquise & poutine lafluer are good for poutine and la belle provence for steamed hot dogs.

+1 Schwartz's or if the line is too long, directly across the street is The Main, which is pretty much just as good but less famous. +1 La Banquise for random poutines.

If you're there on a Sunday and it's warm, go to Tam Tams on the mountain. it's a little party in the park there, and it's a lot of fun. Go North on Parc until just south of Mont-Royal. Might be too early in the year though. A well-known lookout is on the top of the mountain as well.

Go to the Old Port to look around and hit up some live music.

Around Crescent there are a lot of places to see nudity. "Downtown" is one of the best strip clubs in the area. It's between Crescent and Peel on St-Catherine.

Summit park and underground city will be on the list. Biodome is closed right now, sounded cool though.

La banquise is the type of place I had in mind.

Oh what to do in the best city in Canada (with Vancouver it might be a tie)? To add to what has been suggested:

St. Viateur Bagel (hot out of the oven), a 20 minute walk from the top of Parc Mont-Royal or you can take a quick bus ride up Parc Ave. Nice older area, very safe and interesting, plenty to shoot. Buy a few extra bagels for later, all in a brown bag.

263 St. Viateur West (at Parc Ave)

While in the area (short walk up Parc), Cinema du Parc:

Often a film festival going on, I went to this movie house at least twice a week while in university. Plenty of great original cafes in the area, just ask a local on the street.

Schwartz's or The Main deli, I like The Main but would eat at both in the same day if I could... pure bliss. Avoid at lunch time and dinner (crowds), an hour before or after is good, open evenings as well. Order meat medium not lean(can be too dry), I ask for extra fat as well, means you get the juicy pieces... sounds gross but those in the know, just know.

Canadian Centre for Architecture, metro stops close by as I recall. Really interesting building and good photo possibilities in the area, nice view too.

There is a Tiffany glass exhibit on for the next month. You will never see anything like this in Calgary, not on this scale anyway.

Eco Museum, never been but plenty to take pics of:

+1 for Schwartz's you can also bring some meat back! My dad normally does this when he goes to Ottawa for business trips.

    And +1 for strippers

Apparently Montreal has a big hot dog craze. I would also try to find a concert as way more bands go to the east than out here.

P.S. I will pay you for some meat if you bring it back!

Schwartz will fedex the meat if you want. If not, Costco sells a Dunn's smoked meat in brisket form.

Great stuff there! I should mention that I am in New York right now, and recently came back from Washington, DC...so have seen plenty of museums.

That park seems the place to go.

If you're into craft beer, the Dieu du Ciel brewpub is on Laurier West. It's only a 10 minute walk from the "Laurier" stop on the orange line. We had lunch at a nearby cafe that was great but I can't think of the name to save my life right now.

The underground mall is supposed to be cool, but I didn't make it there. I think that's around St Catharines... somewhere near where the orange and green lines run parallel.

Casino de Montreal was neat to see, but kinda boring for me as I don't really gamble. It's the middle stop on the yellow line (there's only 3 stops on yellow), but then you have to hop a bus for 5 minutes. It takes you right to the casino. Also near(ish) that stop are all the attractions that were built out of the old expo 67 pavilions. The biosphere and all that jazz.

If you feel like hitting the south shore, Pizza Longueuil on Rue Saint-Charles was pretty good. There's not much to do on the south shore that isn't better across the river, though.

Oh, and you can buy beer and wine freaking everywhere so enjoy the convenience. We stayed at the Sandman in Longueuil, which is right across the street from the southern end of the yellow line. That metro station had no less than 4 places to buy beer. Maybe more, as I didn't hit up a couple of the restaurants in there.

If I think of anything else I'll come back to this thread. I was there for 3 weeks, but I worked all but 2 days of it so I didn't actually get to see much other than the stretch of highway between the hotel and the facility we were working out of.
