Default Is it safe to travel during declared "state of emergency"?

I've been reading a lot about the current protests and incidents of explosive attacks in Bangkok and other parts of the country. I'm a female traveling alone in late may to Bangkok and Phuket, I was wondering if it's safe to make the trip alone? Anyone traveling in Thailand right now that can offer some insights?
    Thanks!

    Small machete.

If i were a girl, i would be sketched traveling anywhere over seas alone. Naturally you look like an easier target (white?), and there isn't much you can do if someone tries to over power you. That is unless you have some special crazy fighting skills that i don't know about. In that case, carry on.

From what I read you should be ok as long as you stay away from the trouble areas. But keep in mind that your travel insurance won't cover you if anything happens even if it's not related to the riots there. You trip and break your leg in the hotel, they won't cover.

Stay away if you ask me. You'll probably be ok if you have to go for whatever reason but why take the risk when you don't have to.

Go and enjoy yourself. Maybe spend more time outside of Bangkok but if you are going to stay make sure you know where the Consulates’ are and have all of your documents on you at all times and copies of these documents in the hotels safe and in your pack,

She's posting from Vietnam, you'd think that she would know better than us on the other side of the world.

Man, that's sword looks like it's straight out of a Final Fantasy game.

I won't travel alone in such situation, especially female. At least see if you can join a group or something.

I believe Beyonder Dumbass1 is in Thailand right now, but whether you want to travel with a user called Dumbass, that is your choice

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

I wouldn't worry much about it, they're not targeting foreigners. If you see a protest, just avoid it. Bangkok is sketchy on an average day though haha.

You'll be fine, just don't get involved in the protest.

How's vietnam? I'm heading there may 1st with a few buddies.

I've been there 4 times, once for 3 weeks. I also have numerous friends that live there. I don't think it's sketchy at all. I think it's a lot less sketchy that downtown Calgary can be on a Friday or Saturday night.

As others have said, just avoid the protest areas and you'll be fine. Better yet, avoid all of the large "expat areas" like Phuket, Phi Phi, Krabi etc. and head up North or to Koh Tao or Koh Samet or Koh Chang. Have fun!

Bangkok is safe, I was there during the 06 coup and will be back in June. Foreigners are in no danger... just don't go looking for trouble or go near possibly dangerous areas in the city. I have friends who live in Bangkok who say life is the same as always.

Phuket is 100% safe, no protesting will be going on.
