I buy everything from Hyperactive....Really good staff that is SUPER knowledgeable.
Did you buy a nice little rig to tow yourself with Rob?
Your other best bet if you wanna save money is find a good model at Hyperactive and just order it from the US. You know with the dollar how mucn you'll save.
If your not a avid boarder then I would suggest something mid range and spending the money on a good surf board. Way more enjoyment these days.
hyperactive is over priced, check ebay or order from a US site, i saved $350 dollars on my wakeboard set up by ordering it from the US.
While Hyperactive no doubt has some of the best selection with Mobius going down... be weary of them upselling.
What you may need is a set of General Tires.. and they may sell you Some Pilot Sports....
For boards.. unless you are going ride a lot, spend the money on better bindings... you wont notice as much difference from one board to another if they are sized properly.
Hyperactive has a nice selection. True North which took over the Mobius Marine shop in Calgary over the summer does have a clearance sale going on Dec 3-5th and it's just down the road from Tunerworks so you can go check it out. I haven't been to thrilled with the service at True North IMHO FYI.
I've also seen smaller board collections at BowRidge in Cochrane and Renfrew Marine. You must be heading down south for a trip since it's not really the time of year to buy new boat gear.
If you are planning to do some Waking in Alberta next summer I suggest you pick up an Excel Infinity wetsuit, not cheap but with our cold water your balls will thank you.
Long wakeboard thread in Sports section if you want anymore local info.
Thanks for all the advice. I am a beginner so I don't need a super trick board.
My understanding is that rider skill and body weight plays into choosing the ideal board....correct?
I will go visit Tue North and Hyperactive. My hard-earned dollars are staying in Canadian hands
Unless its a Christmas gift... I'd also suggest waiting till the boat show.. they have lots of specials, and will have all the new gear out. Usually Family Day weekend in Feb.
(And specials on last years gear)
As for the board.. it is weight and skill. I would suggest something in the 140's for your height.. and something that has soft forgiving rails....
if you are up for a bit of a road trip, Nomads in Sylvan has a good selection
how big are you height/weight?
my fav board length for myself is 138-140 and im 5'11'' and about 170 lbs, intermediate to advanced, does well for me and i love it, as someone said earier, make sure bindings you get are good, you can ride alot better on a not so good board with good bindings than you can on a good board with bad bindings!

I'd just buy used on eBay.
anything used in town here, people will be charging way too much, because they were originally over-charged at "above mentioned shops"
If you can wait for the boat show, go to that, learn about boards. If you are convinced that you'll get out and ride more than a handful of times a summer, you'll want to know what you're on.
A little help,
Hyperlite, Liquid Force are the two brands that come to mind which have been around forever.
O'Brien seems to have a pretty big following up in Canada..
CWB are also pretty well liked.
Ronix is rider owned by a few of the pro's and have been around a few years.
I'd probably stick to one of the above with personal preference on Liquid Force or Ronix. My last 3 boards have been LiquidForce though.
Last word, most of these companys are actually owned under one umbrella. Most share the same board construction, etc. A board is a board, just make sure you know the differences that length and "rocker style" make.
Which is where folks at a shop are helpful for explaining what a "beginner" needs.
cheers

I have probably left this too late in the season but I need to buy a board ASAP! Hopefully the local places can help me out with good service and products.
Thanks
I work in the pro shop at Tru North Marine, shoot me a PM and I'll hook up a deal.
