Thumbs down Toyota FT-86 price increase. Target owner age increases also.

    via FT86club.com

the Toyota FT-86 pricing will be higher than originally planned. The FT-86 price will be upped in Japan from the original $20,000 starting price to $23,000 (with a fully loaded FT-86 being approximately $26,000). The FT-86 development team is also planning on reducing fuel consumption from the Subaru boxer engine (instead of increasing power).

Finally, in terms of target demographic, Toyota has now upped the increased target buyer age from 30’s to the 40’s. This is due to Toyota market research which indicated that not as many young buyers would purchase the FT-86 coupe as the company originally predicted.

Had high hopes for this car so I hope it doesn't end up being a Genesis coupe (overweight, overpriced)

    That's is USD.

But keep the same figure in CAD, it will still be a hit.

Nothing like the old Toyota influence. Put fuel economy over power and put a premium price on it.

I was thinking the same thing. Next they'll subdue the look some more and make it look like a camry.

If you are going to clone the looks of a car the S2000 is a good place to start IMO.

If they are priced like a Solara and aim toward older folks, may as well make a Solara convertible replacement too. So rich grandma's can own them.

People age between 30-40 .... makes sense...

I am in that range, and I used to hv an Corolla GTS 19 yr ago ....

I guess they target to people who had the original AE86.

$23K sounds good, a loaded up corolla sport is around there, right?

It still is, just in the form of stuck pedals and drifting SUVs.

Haha, perhaps! Personally, I'll take the kind of interesting my picture was alluding to, haha.

(For those wondering, that picture represents one of the big reasons Toyota left WRC in the 90's.)

I want to see Subaru's side of the project! Everyone is so hung up on what Toyota is doing with it, that we don't hear anything about the other (and maybe better?) half!
