Weird, my Xperia XA1 seems to be working fine transitioning from home to away and vice-versa.

I should say unlocked devices. All my Freedom provided devices are solid.

Finally! Formal acknowledgement from Freedom on the topic of YouTube/Netflix throttling:

    https://mobilesyrup.com/2017/07/25/f...mization-tool/
    https://www.reddit.com/r/freedommobi...zi/throttling/

Can confirm that my S8 is finally able to stream 1080p60 HD content on LTE without any issues, before it would buffer endlessly at any resolution over 240p.

If anyone is thinking of getting the XA1: Battery life is garbage.

    Probably service specific.

Watched the Hammond video on the Rimac crash on Facebook. Nothing throttled. End up costing 1.2GB of data.

For anyone else in the same boat - my basement essentially had zero coverage (or was in AWAY mode when it did) so I picked up an external repeater for the signals ..... about 160$.... and works very well.

With the amount of $$ I've saved from ROGERS over the years, this was a no brainer.

For anyone running iPhone on Freedom Mobile, do I have to change settings on anything? All I get is 'Home'

XA1 battery life is shit. I quit.

Home is 3G. Iphone doesn't support Band 66 LTE so you are SOL on Freedom LTE until probably this year's iPhone.

The only good experience with Freedom LTE is probably Freedom provided Samsung S8.

Gunna get the X - it should work with LTE too Band 66 support. I've been using my 7+ since I switched to freedom in June and it's been on 3g the whole time. It's really not that bad for streaming and web duties. Fast enough

    Sweet!

    http://www.metronews.ca/news/calgary...west-sale.html

Chief executive Brad Shaw told analysts Thursday that his company's investments in network capability will allow millions of Canadians to bring their current devices to the Freedom network if the smartphones can use the AWS-1 frequency.

"We're also happy to (announce) that we have finalized an agreement with Apple to bring the iPhone to our wireless customers and we look forward to future announcements on Apple iPhone availability and pricing," Shaw said Thursday.
The company didn't provide details about what's covered by the Apple agreement.

But Shaw president Jay Mehr said the Freedom updated network will handle Apple's older iPhones, including the SE, 6 and 7 models, and compatible LTE devices from other manufacturers, by late 2017 or early 2018 depending on the market.
"I think you can appreciate that's a major shift for us as we build out our LTE network," Mehr said.

I don't get that news release. iPhone has always worked on the old network (AWS-1) since iPhone 5 as long as it's unlocked. But AWS-1 is the slow one. The question is how well will iPhone 8/X will do the AWS-1 to AWS-3 switching/roaming.

So far any unlocked phone on their AWS-3 network is a hassle. You always have to manually set to LTE. While phones sold thru Freedom is slightly better defaulting to the LTE network, about 30% of the time or during phone calls you are still being dumped back to AWS-1.

These cell boosters are awesome and work way better than one would think! I'm with you on this 100%!

I had issues at my place, it's in a 1 block dead zone and I'm on Rogers. Could barely get data, and had dropped calls on the top floor, basement coverage was nonexistant.

Picked up one of those Wilson Electronics weBoost 4G Home Cell boosters, and it works awesome. Full LTE+ coverage in my basement now! I swear and live by this things now...

PS. Check frequencies before buying these to make sure it's valid for your provider!

Looks like Band 7 and 4 are also coming. So Freedom is turning into a real competitor.

Same a month ago in Cali. Although the 2nd/3rd GB is so slow on new plan that make you want to search for wifi hotspots.
