If you want to slum it to get a Band 66 phone, anyone who sign up with $40+ plans are entitled to a free* ZTE Grand X4.

    https://www.freedommobile.ca/plans-a.../zte-grand-x-4

free* = $200 on tab and tab will clear in 2 years.

It's a pretty basic phone but think of it as an advance Wifi Hotspot.
    How did you calculate $200?

    It's $0 up front and on Tab $15/mo x 24 months = $360 Total
    or $30 up front and $10x24 = $240 = $270 Total
    or $140 up front and $5x24 = $120 = $260 Total

I'm sure they will one day, but it's up to Apple to make a Band 66 compliant phone to work on Freedom's LTE network.

Hmm good to know, so if I bought an apple device and a freedom sim it wouldn't work?

Freedom is terrible. We tried it for about a year, and it actually got worse when it became Freedom. Dropped calls on memorial, on stony, near Marlborough, no reception at cross iron, barlow, in the far nw.

Especially bad for me when I drive Uber. Had to give it up and bend over for Telus. As much as it pains me.

Do you have to use the phone for 2 years or the charge sits on your account and is cleared after 2 years?

Switched last night to freedom from my 5gb fido plan. Managed to get a F+F code. So I got the $59 8gb with the 1gb roaming data plan since I’m doing a road trip to California next week. Just using my iPhone 7+ so no LTE for me. So far seem to get better service in town than I did with fido haha. We’ll see how it goes over the next couple months though and how it does while on a trip to the states
Yeah, when I switched from Fido a couple years ago I seemed to get better service with Wind for whatever reason. I remember trying to send pics through Whatsapp and it would take forever with Fido, if even at all, but it just zipped right through with Wind. Same location too. And last year when I went on a trip to San Diego, I got the US package through Wind for like $10 or $15 and it worked great.

Nevermind, I read it wrong. But I did get this phone for free during boxing day last year. And this phone is only worth $150 in reality. Not really worth paying for it.

Charge just sits and reduce by ~$10/month, if you leave Freedom, you just pay off whatever leftover.

Rogers and Fido had a lot of deadspot for my sister in Panorama. They just switched to Telus.

It will but only with the old network which tops out at 12Mbps if you are lucky.

G6 is at $25/mth. S8 is at $35/mth both are stylish.

You still pay less with OnePlus 5 at $649/$719 out right but it's not carrier subsidized.

The s8 is available for $800 total so that's not bad IMO. $200 upfront plus 25 a month for 24 months.

So here a little warning for people who like to BYOD for Freedom.

    Don't do it.

Just get the phone that is offered. So far all BYOD Band 66 phones have problem staying on LTE. It's something on their end, confirmed by people at HowardForum.

The problem being that all voice/text switch back to 3G but system won't signal the phone to go back to LTE afterwards. All Freedom provided phones are fine but all BYOD unlocked phones will not switch back unless you do it manually. I'm having fun time with my unlocked OP5 right now.

So if you like to switch phone often, stay away from Freedom until they fix this.

Hmm that's unfortunate. My freedom s8 has been a bit strange with LTE connection. Seemingly at random my device will switch from LTE to 4G and back. In one case, I went from away network LTE, to freedom 4g, to LTE, to no service, all while standing still.

The constant switching from LTE to 4g at random can cause some hiccups and page failed to load scenarios from time to time.

It doesn't seem like a reception thing so much as something in the backend toggling on/off as often times my phone shows many bars.

i got the OP5. I thought it was Freedom with the problem. It couldn't be the phone as I got it specifically because it was Band 66 compatible. I called Freedom and the lady kept on saying it wasn't compatible, and I explained that the Phone has Band 66 and all mobile news sites said it was compatible with Freedom. I told her the phone just came out 2 days ago, and she just started listing all the phones sold in the store. The conversation went no where. I was planning to go to the Wind store later today to see if it was something to do with my SIM card. With what you are saying, it doesn't seem to be. Do you think they will fix this? It seems they are deliberately not supporting phones not bought from them, and I don't even know if it's worth it to even keep this phone if it's not going to work on LTE without a big hassle. My phone doesn't even lock on to LTE sometimes even though I lock it on. Frustrating.

I was so looking forward to LTE too as I just switched Freedom plans with the Family/Friend Deal thing. Annoying.

I think Freedom front line won't able to do anything. Even on the Grand X4, is don't flip back and forth but at least it goes back. It never goes back to LTE on OP5 unless you force it.

iPhone 7 is working great down in the states! AT&T LTE the whole way down.

What is your method of forcing LTE?

Setting -> Sim & network -> SIM 1 (or 2) -> Network Operators -> Turn off automatically search and start searching -> WIND 4G

Each move is about ~30s off the network for the search.

Beware that sometimes WIND 4G doesn't even show up.

Once you are locked on 4G, you are ok until ether a) you get a call or b) you lost 4G signal. Then rinse and repeat.
