I was with Freedom for a few years but switched to Public Mobile/Telus at the start of the month. My main reasons for finally switching:

    - Wind/Freedom used to have a great US roaming package. It was $10/month of roaming. Then it was $15/month. Last month they changed to $5/day.

I am still on grand fathered plan where $59/mth get you 8GB and 1GB roaming, even in US.

Combined with F&F code, I will never let this plan go even if it mean I will have to BYOD going forward.

Got the same plan and F&F code. Can't see it ever being topped.

Isn’t that 110gb a one time thing though? That you whittle down over time if you go over your cap?

Yeah its 100gb over two years IIRC. So not a huge jump

It's 10 plus 100 bonus, and they don't say it is monthly or one time so I bet you're right.

Well now I don't know what the plan entails haha, I didn't see any mention of it being a 2 year thing.

10GB per month and 100GB over 2 years that expires.

So it worked out to be around ~14GB per month.

I'm not so sure about that, if it's the same as their black friday promo
    https://www.iphoneincanada.ca/shaw/f...-black-friday/

Dubbed their 100GB Big Binge bonus, Freedom Mobile says “Canadians can stream without fear of expensive overage charges” with this bonus data, which is included with all Big Gig plans starting at $60 per month. The 100 GB LTE bonus data is on top of the included data in your Big Gig plan.

Freedom Mobile says the bonus data can be used anytime—with no restrictions. Once a user goes over their included data allotment on their Big Gig plan, the 100GB LTE data bonus kicks in, and customers can use as little or as much as they want.

    ...

Freedom Mobile’s Big Binge bonus data is available today for new and existing customers. To get your 100 GB LTE bonus you need to sign up for a Big Gig plan starting at $60 per month with a new smartphone on a two-year term (iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are eligible with $60 per month plans plus MyTab Boost monthly charges ranging from $30-$40).

The Big Binge Bonus data is applied automatically to your account and never expires, as long as customers remain on their eligible rate plan.

I think I was remembering Fido's black friday deal actually and confusing the two.

Fido has changed their marketing for their 5 hours of free data (1 hour, 5 times per month) per month, known as ‘Data Bytes’, which launched over a year ago. Now, Fido says you can get “120GB extra data! On Fido Pulse Plans assuming 1GB/hour, five times a month, over 24 months.”

Decent if you have a band 13 phone. Still lack behind Telus/Bell for speed/coverage.

My 4G speed is 60-90Mbps on Samsung S10 around Calgary. Inside building is still an issue.

I've been reading about coverage being weak in the last month. My parents was bitching about calls and emails not getting through the last couple of weeks so I guess it's fairly widespread. It affects my mom's iPhone 7 more than my dad's random Android phone, so I'm guessing it has something to do with what bands each phone supports, and that something is inherently broken in the network.

Aside from this month though, my brothers and I pretty much have zero confidence in reaching out to my parents when they're not home. We can't get a hold of them half the time. Since we have find my friends, we can tell they're out of range while driving or specific places they go to, and just randomly pops up every once in a while when the phone decides to get a connection. No clue what speeds are like, they watch all their stuff on wifi anyways, and only rely on data for email.

I'd get them to switch, but they're cheap as fuck. You get what you pay for.

My wife is looking forward to switching off them this winter. The service has been hit and miss. It'll be great for months, and then all of a sudden starts shitting the bed and being sporadic for weeks. Then it will be fine for months again.

Good for the price, but she wants better service. (also wants better coverage while we're camping in the boonies)

I've been holding out with them since 2010 but I think I'm finally done. I don't travel enough to justify keeping this just for unlimited USA roaming (part of my grandfathered plan).

Such a shame that they are still having issues. I am tired of being raped on my Rogers family plan and am looking at all options but I also don't want to pay for a network service I can't rely on. I just can't believe how much we are paying for cell phone service in this country as it's madness.

You can always start a 10 day trial with Freedom to see if it fits your usage.

    It fits mine fine.

The only spot I really have trouble with is in Panorama Estate, both Freedom and Rogers has 1 bar there and almost useless but Telus has 4 bars.

Maybe you should look into a company that uses one of the "big" networks. Like Koodoo and Public Mobile, both being on telus network.

Public is throttled. Koodo (Telus), Fido (Rogers) and Virgin (Bell) basically has the exact same price at full speeds on big networks.

If you can port over a QC plan, they offer some crazy shit out there. Virgin's current QC plans:

    Change the region to QC.
