Thumbs up New BMW Gran Coupe Concept (Porsche Panamera / Audi A7 fighter) just unveiled!

    from http://www.bimmerpost.com

The concept study on display symbolises the outstanding design expertise of BMW. The BMW Concept Gran Coupé concentrates the fundamental values of the brand. Its body design authentically captures a sense of superior dynamic performance and high-quality elegance. The shaping style, which follows a coherent pattern down to the last detail, convincingly visualises BMW’s philosophy as an automobile manufacturer. As with the Concept CS 2007, BMW once again sets new benchmarks in the design of 4-door coupes with a distinctive sporty character.

Based on a powerful tradition in this segment, the BMW Concept Gran Coupé carries the essence of brand values and the genes of BMW design into the future. The concept shows the classic features of all BMW coupes: the long wheelbase, the vaulted bonnet with forward-pointing lines, the set-back greenhouse, the flat silhouette, the coupe-style roof line and the short front overhang reflect the dynamic potential of the vehicle. The surface structures and the fact that the design quality is geared towards perfection illustrate the aspiration of the brand BMW to build 4-door high-performance coupes with the sportiest proportions and the most elegant design. - http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=378296

I still don't understand the concept of calling 4 doors "coupes". Everyone form VW to Merc is guilty of it. A nice looking car though!

Coupé does not always mean 'two door car'.

    From Wiki:
    Four-door coupé
A sedan with classic coupé-like proportions. The designation was first applied to a low-roof model of the Rover P5 from 1962 until 1973, but was revived by the 2005 Mercedes-Benz CLS, as well as other models including the 2009 Jaguar XJ. However, the low roof design reduces back seat passenger access and headroom.

There is also such a thing as a two door sedan. Source.

Huh. I always assumed it was based on number of doors, and not interior volume. Thanks!

Looks better than the current 6 series, which is an ugly pig

Also, shouldn't this thread be in Automotive News?

I'll take the Panamera, thanks. At least Porsche isn't trying to screw up my automobile terminology. Oh, and it looks way better. Oh, and its a Porsche.

This is the design theme BMW should have followed instead of the current line-up.

Looks like a nice mix between Audi and Merc. Classy, yet sporty.

Holy goodness, this car is very nice! Unless I'm blind, is there an estimated price on this?

I see a lot more "coupe" styling in the CLS, A7, and Panamera...I don't see the exaggerated lines of a coupe or the swooping low roof line in the gran coupe, I think its a good looking sedan, but if I was looking for a sportier looking coupe-sedan, id go with its Mercedes, Porsche, or Audi counterparts
