PowerFC works well, but you need the datalogit to go with it and thats another 350$. I hear the VIPEC is pretty nice, its about 1600$ however. If you are going to buy a standalone, you are looking at spending between 1000-2000$, hell there are some that are 5000$. The aem standalone for the sr20 isnt too bad either on paper, its around 1300$. The thing about the powerFC is that its old technology, and its overpriced for what it is. I love mine, but i find myself wanting alot more than what it has, i think i will leave it in my s13, and get a vipec for my s14. It does the trick as far as tuning and making the power tho.
In vancouver there are a lot of people using megasquirt, but that's probably because Racing Greed had some good tuners familiar with it. But I managed to install mine on my own, get it up and running on a base tune and then made it to the dyno for a proper tune. It's a ton of work and you really have to know your shit, but the features it has are awesome and your cost stays under a grand.

Haltech is all you need. I'm switching over this summer to a Sprint500.
Looks nice, pretty barebones tho...dont see any launch control/staged rev limiters....or built in boost control.... or autotune....and 16x16 mapping? pretty basic considering my powerFC is 20x20....Originally posted by Cooked Rice

looks like a decent system for starters tho.

what about link g4 extreme..... it's a bit pricey but is it worth the money?
I dont think its worth the money, the vipec is basically the same thing, and the exact same software, i priced it out at Lightspeed Innovations and it was pretty decent, and its a drop in, so it plugs into your stock harness. Basically theres tons of ways you can go, you just need to decide how crazy you want to get with it.
just the cheapest one that's worth the money and allows me to run a maf....i think running maf is good for cold spring days/nights of calgary... i don't know what do you think?
i'm thinking of a d jetro power fc, is there anything cheaper? thanks
hey zenki... will you be able to burn me a chip for my ecu just to i can run my car safely until i get the stand alone?
thanks let me know i think i sent you my set up already on the other thread....
Yah i can prolly do that, i just need to find a bin file that will closely match your setup and then tweak it from there. The Djetro is overpriced. You can get a aem EMS that will run map, for the price of the Djetro, and dont forget, you cant tune without the datalogit, which is 350$ on top of that. I can rent my datalogit out for a tune session or whatever, but still, only if you can get a wicked deal would i reccomend getting the powerF. I have MY powerFc because i paid 500$ for it brand new in a box (L-Jetro)
The AEM ems is a pretty decent system, its drop in, has built in boost control functions, rev limiters, launch control, wideband o2 capabilities, it will automatically refine your tune as you drive, its MAP, and i believe it is more than 20x20 altho i cant find anything on their documentation that says that. For reliability, you can also purchase a standalone that supports your trigger wheel, and then wire it in from the flying lead that they supply. The good thing about that is that you dont use your factory harness anymore to run your engine, which can eliminate glitches and problems with a 20 year old stock harness. There are MANY options, how far do you want to go.
contact me about burning some chips for you, and let me know what the numbers on your chip say. I need to know if they are electronically erasable or UV erase.
ALSO i would STRONGLY recommend at this point you get a wideband, you are building a fairly easy to blow up combination, and you need to be able to know whats going on, ESPECIALLY if you are going to be running a chipped ecu that we need to tweek on. I would reccomend the AEM uego, its a great setup, very accurate, and CHEAP.

Oh no doubt there!! Definitely going to toma for the tune!!! My buddies running autronic.... But it's exspensive stuff really leaning towards the arm now for the bang for buck reviews it's getting lol!
autronic is the tits
^^^ For ballers only!! =P LOL!! ....autronic.... =.="
I ve got the power fc d jetro for my SR20 setup. Works pretty good. Just got a wide band as well. no complains at all.
Also make sure u get a intake air temp sensor as well. your engine needs to know how much at what temp air is goin into your engine.
Some don't put it but i did.

AEM or Haltech Platinum Sport 1000.
Autronic is "ok", and works, but does have issues.
Vipec is decent, but support is VERY limited. Basically if you have issues, you are stuck dealing with the fellas in Red Deer.
Haltech and AEM are easy to get a hold of, and have good North American support.
Megasquirt was ok when it was $150. For $700+, and the inherent sensitivity to noise, and the resultant spark scatter... I wouldn't use one unless I was collecting pop bottles to pay for one. Even then, you could buy something better used on ebay.
No love for the PowerFC huh Toma?

Actually, I do like it. It works and is simple to tune if you have dataloggit or the like.Originally posted by DonJuan

I wont do one that has only the hand controller lol.
Hey Kevin you have datalogit I can use? Lol I'm most likely picking up the powerfc...that would be one less thing to buy if I can borrow it. Lol
